I appreciate The work that the staff puts in but sometimes people that work here are weird. Yesterday, Monday, two adults sat at kids (16-25 years old) computers, and most of The adult seating was full. There were no kids, but a table was available. I made sure not to walk in the kids area with my dirty shoes on. One of the docents chased me out of the area. I am a middle aged man and would have not minded meeting a mother that could have used the support of a male role model for her children(12:00pm). Today I went in with a female friend, and the mustachiod librarian kept staring and got up to check on her while I was waiting for her to take care of her business by the drinking fountain( while I rolled a cigarette). After he got done staring at her while she got a drink or (who knows) try to check on her in the bathroom, he told me, I wasn’t allowed to roll a cigarette, (6:00pm-7:00pm) and then He chased us out with a sly little comment about us that I didn’t even want to hear. This library is not always family friendly, or fun, or even safe because of some of the staff. I should be able to make a date or have date in library if and when we want one. There are only so many places I can sit down and read a good book, and this library has plenty, it just needs people that are a little more middle of the road when it comes to personal attacks. Or rather not so maladjusted that they need to be in someone else’s business unless someone is in danger (or a danger themselves). I will happily change this review, I just want to...
Read moreVery nice library with nice amenities. I reserved time on their website for their private work rooms for some job interviews and they were great. They were almost always open and I could work in there longer than reserved on most occasions. They didn’t mind me not having a library card because I didn’t have the appropriate documentation. I had access to all services except for checking things out and leaving with them.
Libraries are a more valuable resource than most people realize and have more services than expected too. This is a nice library too with modern architecture and a generally newer feel to it. It’s large and has several private rooms and an another area with available computers. The kid’s section is downstairs and larger than the kid’s section the school in...
Read moreThe staff is wonderful. The building, albeit a little dog-eared, is accessible and charming. The library's central location in downtown Richmond is a fine anchor to the slow but burgeoning renaissance that Richmond's financial district is experiencing. Lots of books to enjoy for the price of walking through the front door. (Update, 2025.05.02: the library's "Memory Lab" is a wonderful resource/program that provides you the guidance, materials and equipment to digitally preserve objects in your family's "archive," and the twice-a-year book sale sponsored by "Friends of the Richmond Public Library" is fantastic! I always purchase too many books, and it always makes...
