From the moment you step into Downing Bottles & Bites, you’re enveloped in a welcoming atmosphere that sets the tone for an extraordinary experience. The highlight of my visit was the friendly service provided by the bartender, whose hospitality and expert recommendations enhanced the experience.
I started with the Stuffed Piquillo Pepper Plate, a dish as visually appealing as it is delicious. Each pepper was delicately stuffed with creamy goat cheese, creating a perfect balance of soft texture and rich flavor. The addition of balsamic glaze added a sweet tanginess that contrasted beautifully with the slight heat from the chili oil, while the chives offered a fresh, oniony crunch that tied all the elements together. This appetizer not only tantalized the taste buds but also set a high standard for the courses that followed.
The Seared Tuna was a masterpiece of both preparation and presentation. The fish, expertly seared, was incredibly fresh and tender, practically melting in the mouth. A great portion size of Tuna too! It was enhanced by a harmonious blend of yuzu sauce and sweet soy glaze, which provided a citrusy depth and a touch of sweetness that elevated the tuna's natural flavors. The addition of orange segments, radish, jalapeño, and sesame not only contributed an array of textures—from crisp to juicy—but also infused each bite with complexity and zest. I asked the bartender for my fresh jalapeño, as personal preference for me, complimented every bite and she happily brought some more.
To complement the meal, I indulged in the Espresso Martini Flight, which was a showstopper. The classic espresso martini was flawlessly executed, with a robust coffee flavor perfectly balanced by the sweetness of the vodka. The Carajillo variant brought a delightful twist with its warm, liquor-infused coffee, providing a comforting yet invigorating experience. The Lavender Vanilla, however, was a revelation—its floral notes and the smooth, creamy texture introduced a refreshing lightness that contrasted beautifully with the deeper, more intense flavors of the other two. A lovely edible flower garnish complemented the visual nicely.
The attention to detail by the owner and the staff at DBB made my truly memorable. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, make sure to stop by for not only the outstanding food and drinks but also the warm, genuine service that makes this place a gem in the culinary scene. So grateful to have this establishment in...
Read moreWent for lunch with a friend. We are not wine people but we were excited to try a new fun sandwich spot!
First off, the place is very cozy and inviting. The outside looks much smaller than it is on the inside. Although we opted to eat inside, the outside patio looks absolutely adorable as well. Inside does have a cheese smell, which some may not like but I actually thoroughly enjoyed.
Our waitress was friendly enough, not overly friendly, not rude. It was a nice experience.
The food averaged out to be good. Hummus was GREAT. I would highly recommend. Pita bread was warm and soft, hummus was full of flavor. We ordered a Cuban and and Turkey Melt. Now, if you are looking for an authentic Cuban, this is not it... Although a tasty sandwich! The "turkey melt" probably has to be the worst excuse for a turkey melt I've ever attempted to eat. When I think Turkey Melt, I think hot gooey cheesy goodness on a turkey sandwich. It was neither warm or cheesy. They use some sort of cheese type spread which reminded me of cream cheese, and some type of jam (I don't remember what is was called, you can refer to the menu), and the turkey was just average deli sliced turkey. I feel like if they just changed the name on the menu it would clear up some confusion. The combination of the jam and the cheese spread almost gave the turkey a fishy like flavor... my friend and I both tried to eat it and just couldn't. The side salad was oily and lacking flavor, but the chips were great! I believe they are made in house...
Overall experience was good. I really can't get over that turkey melt. If you decide to try this spot, I would choose your food wisely. Menu items seem to be a little hit or miss. Food is a little pricey, but I don't mind the pricier items when they taste amazing and I love supporting...
Read moreThis little establishment is one of the Best Restaurants in America, in my top 5, after 42 years and 45 states of dining out at restaurants. The atmosphere is that of an old school diner milk shake shop, with a horrible color of blue, that fits perfectly, to make it unusually comfortable. The music playlist is outstanding. The prices are slightly high, but only a reflection of rent cost in downtown Rockwall. The staff and owners are amazing people that provided wonderful interactions of communication, and even insights of other local establishments. This is a small local business that deserves to be greatly supported and appreciated, just by how they run their business model. Not to mention the service and food being overly outstanding. Try the Salmon Dip, its the best I've found west of the Mississippi River. 10 out of 5 stars. Try this place, the owners are very friendly, and are actually there, hands on. The staff was very engaging. Even the other customers were an enjoyable surrounding. Thank you David, Charlie, Andrea and everyone else there that makes this such a Must Try wonderful Establishment. As well as the lovely customer Terry that engaged in a delightful conversation with me. Thank yall for the...
