Quarry park is an excellent mini-hike park that has parking for only 8 cars. I was looking for a place to "trail run" and this has 4 miles of single track trails. However, I do not recommend hiking it alone the 1st time because the trail turns are not well marked and you could easily get lost by yourself. I also reccomend trail hiking poles because there is broken shale rock in certain sections that is easy to twist an ankle on. Especially after a rain. Many trails are small and the overgrowth of vines and prickly vines are annoying. Next time I might bring hedgeclippers in my backpack. I am wary of ticks because Lyme Disease so overgrown trails are not safe. Fine for bringing a dog. But I would also bring water for yourself and the dog during any hike. Cellphone reception is spotty in the valley area so if you have an emergency be aware of this issue. The parking area is just 3 blocks after the train tracks and 2 blocks from Silas Deane Highway. A very good 2 or 3 person hiking spot if you want a 2 hour in town nature experience in Rocky Hill/Wethersfield area. 3 stars because overgrown trails and poor markings. Also warning ⚠️ about car breaking in. But I did not see any...
Read moreGorgeous trail to hike, easy to get to. Have hiked it a handful of times. Love the old bridge ruins that got tagged with colorful art. Makes for great photos and a place to stop and chill. Trails are mostly easy. Up top has a beautiful view of the whole landscape, and even a bench to sit and enjoy the scenery if you need to stop and rest. Definitely would go back again and again if I'm ever in the area. Saw a fox my last time there when I was foraging for items for my Yule wreath! Parking lot is about average size for a hiking trail. Absolutely one of my favorite hiking spots...
Read moreEasy 2 mile loop trail. There is a lookout into the quarry near the beginning of the blue trail. Then, we followed the blue trail down into the quarry. To find the old ruins with the graffiti, I believe they are on the yellow trail. The ruins and all the graffiti was neat to look at. Don't forget to wear waterproof hiking shoes. The trail is rocky (I mean it is an old quarry) and there is plenty of mud on the trail from all the rain we are getting...
