From my understanding, The park itself is supposed to pay homage to the industrial area that Rogers used to be when the railroad first came through the area so many years ago and as a long time local, I appreciate that the designer of the park desired to keep that idea alive. But that is where my fondness of the park stops. This park was not designed with parents in mind. Were the park planners even parents? The park features long concrete tunnels, metal structures, and a composite rubber ground that marks out the play area. There are benches on one side of the park, close to the street. It seems that the park will be open to the street on the same side of he park where the benches are located. Because of construction, this street is currently not in use. Once construction is finalized, this street will be heavily used for traffic during rush hours going to and from the homes near the lake. It seems dangerous to leave a heavily used street open from the park. Because of the artificial environment there are also NO large shade trees or shade provided.. Arkansas gets very hot during the summer and the park becomes almost unusable because the park, that's primarily man made materials that get hot in the sun, has no shade. So the park is used mostly in the evenings, which is great, but the benches that I mentioned earlier,, face the evening sun. So parents are left at the other side of the park with no shade and no where to sit if needed.. The long tunnels and large structures and length of the park make it very difficult to keep track of multiple small children if a parent or care taker is the only one trying to keep track of many kids. Which is also very dangerous if the park does remain open to the busy street. As a local, the original park that was in DT Rogers was smaller but much nicer. Big trees, grass, a play area that looked like a train, pavilions, benches. They could have just expanded on that idea instead of making a play area that is very dangerous. ....oh and the restrooms that are in the park inside of a shipping container: in the summer smell exactly like how you think a poop box inside of a metal box...
Read moreCool looking but possibly the worst playground I’ve ever been to. No shade. No benches. Open to the street. The tunnels look cool but are extremely dangerous. The play structure is far from the splash pad so good luck if you have more than one kid and they want to do different things. It’s right next to a train line which is just dumb. Diesel smoke and loud horns do not mix well with small children. It’s loud. Your kids won’t be able to hear you. You can’t see them when they’re in the tunnels. I give it 6 months before the city is sued and the park is demolished.
This is what you get when art students make a playground and...
