Discriminatory and Unlawful Treatment of Disabled Patron (ADA Violation)
I’ve been to Club Frisco in downtown Rogers, AR several times without incident…until tonight, when I was aggressively and publicly discriminated against for having a service dog.
As a person with a disability, I rely on a highly trained medical alert and response service dog who accompanies me everywhere, including work and public establishments. The moment I stepped one foot inside the bar, the man behind the counter began yelling at me: “NO PETS ALLOWED!” I pointed to my dog’s clearly marked vest identifying her as a task-trained service animal under federal law. He continued shouting “no pets” repeatedly and refused to listen to any explanation.
When I asked, “So you don’t allow disabled people to come here?” he responded that it’s a private business and he can do whatever he wants. That is not how the law works. I left the bar shaken, humiliated, and in tears.
Let me be clear: under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service dogs are not pets. Bars are considered public accommodations under federal law (42 U.S.C. § 12182), and they are required to allow individuals with disabilities to be accompanied by their service animals. According to 28 CFR § 36.302(c), staff may only ask two questions: (1) Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) What task is the dog trained to perform? They cannot legally deny access or make arbitrary judgments…which is exactly what happened here.
This was not just a rude interaction, it was a blatant violation of federal civil rights law. I have filed a formal complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice over this discriminatory incident.
If you have a disability or rely on a service dog, be aware that Club Frisco may treat you with hostility, ignorance, and outright contempt. Discrimination has no place in our community and no excuse...
Read moreClub Frisco is a local favorite. The staff love making signature cocktails, and the drink menu changes every three to four months along with the seasons. My favorite is the chocolate martini, not espresso martini, but the chocolate martini. However, any drink they make is fantastic. The staff care about the quality of the drinks, customer experience, and the quality of music that is played in the venue. The bar is a little bit crass with Christmas lights sparkling all year long, but it works for that bar. Another bar wouldn’t be able to pull it off as well. I could go on and on. Just know that I highly recommend this place to anyone wanted great cocktails, a friendly staff, and great conversations with fellow...
Read moreThis is a great bar to visit while in Rogers. There is two levels to this bar. The bottom level is your typical bar scene area, the area you order your drinks from and you can sit at the bar.
The gem is the upstairs. There's couches, chairs and tables. There are card games and board games to play upstairs while you enjoy kicking back, drinking your favorite drink and chatting with friends.
