This is a great trail for walking, but not great for riding. It is clean and relatively well maintained. Just shy of 5 miles long, the trail should satisfy anybody's walking needs. There are plenty of entrances along the route with street parking. As a cyclist, however, I would not recommend this trail. Yes, there are many pedestrians and dogs and kids on bikes; that I can deal with. The main issue with the trail is the number of intersections that go through it. They fence off the curb so that you have to go down the sidewalk a bit and use a crosswalk. It makes sense that they don't want cyclists barreling through the intersections without slowing down, but it does get annoying very fast. I think cyclists are better riding on the street itself unless they are beginners. It's actually great practice for clipping...
Read moreI am a whittier local with 10 years of experience. Walking the trail at night is unsettling, while this may not be a concern to some. In my view, I've seen a few homeless people take shelter at night in the bushes. Homeless people aren't the problem pretty peaceful, but I know some people who frequent/walk the trail with I'll intentions. Anyway, I to conclude I've probably walked this trail thousands of times, but I have been increasingly unsettled by the number of incidents happening at night. Read moreIt’s a great trail DONT get me wrong but I’ve been followed multiple times by either homeless guys or just random guys on bikes. This usually happens on the bridge on Washington or just close to it. But overall I really do enjoy the trail so much, just make sure to bring something to defend ur self if ur running/jogging/walking alone or bring someone to accompany you, just in case anything happens, usually ppl r nice and not weird but ofc there’s always gonna be unsafe...
