In the large dog area, people consistently show up in the morning from 7-9ish & in the evening about 2 hours before sunset.
I like that we can count on dogs to play with consistently.
One thing that I love about this park is the extra enclosures. There's basically 2 extra spaces. There's a big dog & small dog area. A large undesignated area for dogs still getting used to being social & a very small area between the two larger enclosures that can act as an isolation space, when a dog really needs to be separated from the rest.
We have had some trouble with aggressive or poorly behaved dogs. My pup tends to get picked on occasionally by neutered male dogs that take issue with him still being intact. (Waiting until he is 18 months old per vet.) He's been attacked or humped on several occasions. And after he gets humped, then he wants to hump all the other dogs that visit. It's super annoying because it's a behavior that I don't tolerate. Usually, when a dog is aggressive, the owner steps in & fixes the behavior and then everything is fine. But, I've also experienced owners that don't take the appropriate steps, like moving their aggressive dog to the extra enclosure. One night, the same dog attacked my dog three times. The first time was when they first entered the park. My dog was standing near me & had not even acknowledged or greeted the other dog yet. We ended up leaving for our safety when the owner, even after being made aware of the other enclosure, would not contain him.
In any case, we have had lots & lots of great play days here with no issues! And, it's close to home. We've just decided to not let a few bad experiences keep us away from...
Read moreRound Rock Dog Depot has many positive aspects, including a few permanent agility apparatus, plenty of water, poop stations with bags, and three separate areas including a small dog park.
HOWEVER, the park rules are inadequate to cover even basic safety; no one seems to read and/or respect the rules that ARE posted, and absolutely NO ENFORCEMENT or accountability is in place.
More than half the dogs at anytime are likely unneutered adult males. This is a hotbed of testosterone that blows up with regularity. Females in heat are prohibited; However people bring them anyway. And females broadcast a week or more before and after their heat cycle. Can you imagine what that does with 10+ males? Fighting! And yet people are surprised! DUH!
People bring dogs they admit are aggressive! Then refuse to leave (as required).
People bring infants and toddlers!!
Common sense, unfortunately, does not outweigh the ignorance of some of the pet handlers and PARENTS!!! CPS should make the rounds on a nice day.... toddlers on up try to treat unknown dogs as if they are their own.... parents do NOT supervise their young children and many have no idea how to approach unfamiliar dogs. This is criminal negligence and shows they have no clue how to keep their child safe.
A dog that is otherwise perfectly sweet may have been abused by children and will react accordingly!
I go to the park almost everyday and leave when things get unsafe — sometimes I have to turn right...
Read moreGreat park but keep an eye out for this heavy, older lady who screams at owners any time a dog starts to bark too much or play bites. I once witnessed her become physically abusive towards someone else's dog then scream at the top of her lungs at the owner when told to stop. Well I just went the other day and I guess it was my turn. My dog loves to chase other dogs and as a result, some snip at him (understandably, this is how dogs communicate). So my dog started chasing hers and HER dog nipped at mine and mine just happen to nip back this time. She went NUTS! Made a huge scene AND caused other dogs to fight with her negative attitude. Dogs feed off of energy and she was worse than the dogs, completely amplifying the situation. This woman should not be aloud to come to this park. If it happens again I will be going to the...
