My “street cred” is that I grew up in Miami, stopping by any and many Cuban bakeries to have some pastelitos and a colada for breakfast before school almost every day. Every party had a tray of the small bocaditos, a tray of congrí and some pork or some ropa vieja. I’m also Cuban on my dad’s side. I ordered una empanada de pollo, una de carne, y un pastelito de guayaba y queso. They were all ‘okay’. The pastelito could have definitely benefited from a lot more filling, took two bites to finish the filling and be left with a large boomerang of puff pastry. The empanada had a great crunch but both the beef and chicken fillings were small (leaving you with the same boomerang effect) and a bit bland for a Cuban bakery. The display cases should be a lot warmer for the pastelitos and empanadas to keep everything as fresh and warm as possible. The cooler display with desserts needs better lighting and should be presented better as well.
The store could definitely use some more spice. I’m a bit shocked for a Cuban bakery to be so bland all around. Obviously I dont’t expect it to be exactly like Miami but some effort would definitely help. Some Cuban music playing in the background, some “Tropicana” style decor with tasteful palmera and dark wood decor and more SABOR could take this place further than it is now. Not cheaply but with style and class that pay homage to the Cuban way. Just some suggestions from a cubanita missing home.
My search continues through Austin as I attempt to locate a Cuban bakery or restaurant that can mirror or be close to the feel and...
Read moreThis place was sparkling clean and filled with unique and tasty treats perfect for breakfast, snack, or lunch. The lady was cheerful and pleasant. Definitely check it out, we are fortunate to have places like this, so support them. I had a chicken filled pastry and beef filled one. Both were perfectly seasoned and delicious with flakey pastry shaped like a cute little pie. I also had a very tasty ham and cheese croquette and bought a delicious looking Napolean that I will share a photo of when I eat it. 😋
And here is the photo of Napolean the next day, eaten this morning with coffee in a Christmas mug. These are nice holiday treats! I can't wait to go back and try more goodies.
Wow, I just noticed some people wrote some very mean-spirited reviews attacking this small business! The quality and the flavor of this food was excellent and the prices were so reasonable that when I realized I forgot my wallet, I was still able to find enough loose change in my car to cover the cost!
Total perfection only exists in our memories of the places we wish we hadn't left.... and the most homesick people I have noticed are always the least satisfied. Also a small business like this does not always have lots of staff to cover if someone gets sick or has a...
Read moreWish their level of rudeness would have been as apparent as in their reply. BUYER Beware!! Coffee with milk was ok. Baked items were ok. Service was overly combative and rude. I will not return. The process to pay is not clear. I tapped my credit card to pay and then the system prompted me to add a tip then i was told i had to pay so then i was explaining the process to my companion then the cashier accused me of saying i had been charged twice which was not the case. This was too much drama for what was supposed to be an easy going coffee. I will not return. Fyi--they are understaffed and they have a sign saying that. However the extra drama is not something i look for. Proof of the attitude is in the reply . different than what i am used to standard of customer service. McDonald's does not scream at its customers -- at least in my experience. I am happy to give my business to restaurants that follow a non-combative customer approach. Interesting that this restaurant does not want to look at its payment process since apparently tapping it doesn't work on the first try since I wasn't the only one confused by how it works. ...
