Just joined and really enjoy this gym. I recently moved back to the Sacramento area from Arizona, and I was shocked, and disappointed, to find that so many gyms have grabbed on to the cross-fit fad, and really not focused on quality, traditional body building equipment.
I was referred to Fitness System by an employee of another gym, and I'm thankful I found this place. While this is a positive review I am going to paint an accurate picture of this gym.
Fitness System is not that big, but what they lack in size they make up for with some really quality equipment. By quality I don't mean brand new. Some of this equipment is older, but it doesn't matter. It works better than some of the newer equipment I've used. Some of the machines are just designed better and really target the muscle based on the angles.
As I said some of the equipment is very old, but that doesn't mean it's not good. I found an old manual, free weight, grip strength machine that I haven't seen anywhere in ages.
There's one thing that this gym could really work on, that's the AC. Just be aware the AC does not function well. It's often humid, and stuffy in the gym. However, the locker rooms are always ice cold, which I don't understand. They do have giant fans mounted on either side of the free weight room to help move air around, and in the mornings they have the window open that it is in that room as well. So, if there's one place they need to improve it's in the AC department. I do have to admit though, in a way I like it be stuffy, and humid. Makes you sweat more, it takes you out of your comfort zone, and just feels old school.
Where I would like to see the equipment improve is they need a flat bench hammer strength free weight machine. They have incline, but not a flat. I don't quite get that.
The seated lateral leg press machine isn't very good. You can max out this machine very easily, and the foot plate is kind of high not really allowing for a "low footed" leg press. It would be nice to replace this machine with a better seated, lateral, leg press machine.
The stair steppers upstairs on the cardio deck need to have the ceiling tiles above them even higher if possible. I'm only 6' and I typically stay towards the top of the steps. I've already bumped my head a few times. So, I have to focus on pacing myself to the middle of the stairs
Also, just a side note for the Management. There are multiple spots where the rubber flooring has bubbles. This is a trip hazard. It doesn't bother me at all, but you're leaving yourself wide open for legal action in the sue happy country we live in.
Back to the positives, they have an ab wheel available to use, and some decent ab benches.
They have unlimited tanning in stand up tanning beds for $10 a month!
Overall I'm really enjoying working out at this gym, I'm glad I joined, and it's conveniently placed between home, and work. I gave them 4 stars, only because of the things I've mentioned, but all around my...
Read moreMy son had a membership that we tried to cancel during Covid. But they would not allow us to do it over the phone. My son changed payment method and it was his mistake that he did not understand how it worked. I went in to cancel the membership and they were not going to let me even though he was 16. They made it so difficult. Despite not using it, they charged me for the month plus a $15 fee to charge it. It took forever and of course, no masks because they are exercising their freedom. They could not print out a receipt, so I had her write it on a Service receipt with day and amount. We just got another charge. I called the manager who told me, "I do not see a request to cancel," even though I had explained what had happened. She made it seem like she was doing me a favor rather than saying, "oops, so sorry, let's fix this." I lost it. I think it is awesome to exercise one's rights and to follow policy, but they made it so difficult to try to stop the membership and were incredibly unprofessional when I called. This is a scam companies do hoping you will not check your monthly statements. Wouldn't it have been great when I first went in to say, We are going to cancel and not charge you for the month because we hope when the weather gets better and you feel more comfortable with the vaccine that you will come back and be our customer. Nope, looked at their bottom line for the month rather...
Read moreAfter being a member for 3 years, I have recently had some severe concerns about this organization. We all understand how challenging the quarantine has been, but every business/family/person is going through this together. Fees were not charged for April or May, so I just assumed that monthly fees were not being charged until the stay at home order was lifted. In August, I checked my credit card and discover I was charged a yearly maintenance fee plus the monthly fee. I went back and checked my credit card statements, only to find out I was charged monthly fees for June and July. I figured these just had to be simple mistakes so I called the Land Park gym. I was told that they were closed and a manager was unavailable but would get back in touch with me. I waited a few days with no call back. I called again, but the phone just rang and eventually cut off. I called their original location in Lodi and asked to speak with a manager. None was available, but the customer service person I spoke with said that they had received many calls from the Land Park gym and that the gym was open and conducting business outside. Confused, I asked to how can you use weight lifting/treadmills outside and again requested to speak to a manager. I was was told none were available. I am still waiting to hear back from someone who can fix this and hope this is a...
