We were very excited to take our daughter to the zoo since she hasn’t been since she was a baby but we were utterly disappointed. We drove 3 hours to come see the animals and paid for hotel so we could get up early to get there when opening. The price was $80 for 2 adults and 1 child which in itself is crazy but what makes it worse is many of the animals are no longer there as well as many animals being put away which I guess I do understand that as they can get sick or get us sick but we had no idea. The site was glitching when we tried to look at costs and stuff before coming down that day (yesterday) so we just drove down and got a room and got tickets at the gate and so we didn’t know how much the price went up and we didn’t know chimps were gone, birds are not around, many animals not out at all the big cats we couldn’t see or find besides I believe cheetah. The shows also weren’t happening which was one thing my daughter was looking forward to as well as the chimps and big cats. We don’t get to get out often as there’s not much where we live and we can’t make a 3 hour one way (without traffic) often to go to zoo or something. When we do we like to enjoy and we didn’t. I have a special need 7 year old who loves animals and they comfort her and she was extremely disappointed. We paid 80$ and stayed under 1 hour. We are pretty disappointed and my daughter is still pretty hurt and sad. The price should not be this expensive when many things are not available anymore and many animals are gone or put in back away from us. I get inflation but this is just crazy and extremely disappointing especially when we traveled a long time to come and got hotel specifically to come here. We essentially got a hotel room and paid 80$ to be in the zoo for an hour then drive all the way back home as we only came for the zoo and with the expensive tickets we couldn’t afford to take her to fundeeland to make up for the zoo which was very sad. She had high hopes and we were all letdown and unfortunately many others as well as I heard a few conversations the short time we walked around. It’s all very...
Read moreIt was a very pleasant experience. We parked and walked up around 10 am, and found that the morning experience was rather nice. It was quick to get in, and admission for two adults is very affordable, a little over $20 each. I do have sensory issues, so I made use of their sensory bag service, which did prove to be a good idea. I used the headphones the entire time besides a break for a meal, and they remained comfortable the entire time. I could still hear things around me, such as my partner speaking to me, but everything was very quiet; I consider this ideal.
The animals were of a pleasant variety, were often accompanied by genuinely interesting facts on the informational boards placed near their enclosures, and they seemed quite healthy and happy. The zoo is focused first and foremost on the comfort of the animals, so we didn't see some of them, others were sleeping, and many were relaxing. I'm still satisfied with how many I saw, and the behaviors I got to observe. With more effort, I could have experienced some interesting daily animal events, such as feedings, but I did not put in that effort; nonetheless, I did get to watch an otter run around its enclosure excitedly looking for fish that was tactfully placed about for it to find, and that was lovely.
The restaurant in the zoo has quite pleasant scenery near its outdoor tables (with indoor tables available), and it's fairly reasonably priced. The garlic fries were bountiful with garlic; take that however you like.
The layout was easy to walk, the train service seemed to run frequently and go by interesting exhibits, and every employee was friendly - though thankfully not to the extent that...
Read moreThis Zoo will always hold a special place in our hearts because this was our son first Zoo visit. He is 15 months and loved it! Its a small, but there is a lot to see! We walked the entire Zoo in about 2 hours. We had reservations for right when the Zoo opened and were leaving around 11:15. We paid to feed the Giraffes, and that line was maybe about a ten minute wait, nothing crazy. Our son was fascinated and enjoyed it! He also got to see the Lion’s active and walking around and roaring!! What a treat! We were bummed out that we couldn’t have a souvenir to add to our collection of Zoo maps from other places, you have to take a picture of the map and look at that to guide you, which is a bummer for us since we aren’t attached to our phones. We wanted to get a photo strip in the little booth they had, but the wait was long, and that was the only one we saw throughout the park. Maybe next time! We didn’t have any snacks or anything, and didn’t see any stands open while we were walking around, just the bigger restaurant toward the end of our Zoo Trip. What was really a drag was the Zoo doesn’t offer a military discount for tickets or within for food, shopping etc. We did find it pretty absurd that the hoody we bought for our son was more expensive than our admission for the Zoo. But we enjoyed ourself and will always remember our first Family Zoo Trip and we will be back. Thanks...
