6x Weekly Member/ Honest Review This is my feedback for your location after being a member for a year. All comparisons will be made relative to the price point and key demographic of Saddle Brooks Location. Not drawing comparisons to Equinox, Lifetime, Orange Theory, etc.
Restroom - always clean and stocked Locker room - always clean/well maintained, almost all lockers are working Towels - Not available, but would be a nice addition. Dumbell/bench area - mostly reracked Main Floor - More than enough equipment available
Need to use the window shades system or tints for all windows facing treadmills, cycles, and stairmasters. Given my experience the sun does not overwhelmingly shine through, however, the main problem is vehicle lights in the evening practically blind you as you drive past. On several occasions, for whatever reason, vehicles have prolonged stays facing the window, thus making the equipment somewhat obnoxious to use.
Disturbances - Arguably #1 gym as far as other member appropriateness. So far nothing to note of disrespectful or disturbing behavior that has become a common occurrence at other gyms. Ex. unreasonably large groups, disruptive teenagers, excessive recording/ photography, etc.
Staff - Again #1 in North Jersey, great team of staff members. Well-trained, understanding, and accommodating.
Overall, considering your price point and primary demographic, Powerhouse is my 2nd best choice of fitness center in New Jersey, Jersey Strongs "Marlboro Location", being my top choice.
Key Differences: 24 Hr availability Studio Room Female-only studio room Chalk allowed in certain areas The boxing area is fitted with most boxing necessities The turf area is larger and more equipped with necessities Overall, price per amenities available
Major Takeaways from Key Differences:
To get access to the boxing area and turf, you would need the upper platinum membership. For the boxing area, assuming improvements are made, and other additional amenities like classes, physical therapy, monthly scans, etc are included would be worth the price point that it is. However, currently, it just feels like a money grab.
Considering the $100 platinum membership, it just really isn't worth it. The boxing area is only really equipped with hanging heavy bags. Without the speed bag, angeled heavy bag, teardrop bag, etc, most experienced boxers with likely be deterred, and beginners with a lack of exposure.
The turf, although it's fairly small, is more than capable of accommodating all the necessary exercises you would need. However, again this amenity is an upgraded feature of the gym. In my experience, it has been universal that this amenity would be included in the basic plan. I should not have to pay "approx" an extra $500 annually to use the battle ropes or do pushups/ burpees on fake grass.
Understandably and reasonably so, it is unlikely that we will see the implementation of 24-hour availability, studio room, and female studio room anytime soon.
Hopefully, we will see some easily implemented changes, such as the speed bag, chalk allowance in the lifting room, and gym towels.
#1 in North Jersey, far outperforming local competition, LA Fitness, Retro, Hackensack Meridian, etc.

Read moreDO NOT RECOMMEND: Been a Member of this gym for over a year now, and one thing I can say is that it is NOT WORTH IT. New Members pay $69.99 a month with a 12 month commitment and If you try to cancel before then they make you pay for the rest of the months in your contract.
FOR 69.99 + tax YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO BRING A GUEST! - they previously had buddy passes where you could bring a person twice a month which was fair, but I was informed by staff they are doing away with that. The reasoning was because the gym is overcrowded, but realistically it was to increase profits because of the recent equipment failures they’ve had. This also evident from the fact they no longer offer basic memberships (59.99 a month).
Worst part is the gym has NO WATER FOUNTAINS! You need to ask the front desk to fill your bottle up which takes away valuable time from your workout as there is usually a line at the front desk for protein shakes.
This gym also DOES NOT TURN ON THE A/C UNLESS IT IS over 80 degrees. The gym can become unbearably hot inside with all the people and all they have are a few fans in certain locations and expect people to not feel like passing out from an intense workout.
Gym employees stay behind the front desk to avoid re racking any weights gym goers forget to place back. There seems to be no supervisor present to enforce the staffing. There are even a few gym staff that do laps around the gym just to flirt with gym goers instead of actually picking up the weights and re racking them.
This gym has excessive cardio equipment, which is almost never at 50% capacity. The cardio section alone takes up a couple hundred square feet making the gym feel crammed despite the massive square footage.
In between the cardio section and the machines is a strip of turf that just looks out of place, and the chains around it make it hard for people to walk through to access the cardio equipment to begin with.
When it comes to the machines/ equipment, there is a good selection however when something breaks the gym owners drag their feet to fix it.
SUGGESTION:
KEEP THE BUDDY PASSES, CUT HALF THE CARDIO EQUIPMENT AND ADD MORE MACHINES. FIX YOUR PLUMBING AND TURN ON THE WATER FOUNTAINS! ALSO DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER TO TURN ON THE A/C!
The gym feels over crowded because you have 20 cardio machines not being used while everyone is scrambling for machines.
For the value of a membership and what you get out of the gym it is most certainly not worth it… There are a few other gyms that are competitively priced that offer way more variety in equipment and have more bare...
