During our journey from Boston to New York, we decided to order takeout from a restaurant along the way, hoping to enjoy a satisfying meal on the road. Unfortunately, our experience with this particular establishment left us deeply disappointed. As a food lover, it is important for me to share an honest review of our takeout experience.
We placed an order that included ghee idli and dosas, eagerly anticipating a delicious Indian meal. However, upon opening the containers, we were immediately greeted with a repugnant odor emanating from the ghee idli. The smell of the ghee was overpowering and off-putting, completely diminishing our excitement for the dish. Furthermore, the idlis themselves were disappointingly hard and seemed to have been sitting for a prolonged period, resulting in a stale texture. The overall experience with the ghee idli was disheartening, to say the least.
To our dismay, the dosas we ordered were equally disappointing. Not only were they hard, but they also emitted an unpleasant odor that indicated they were far from fresh. As a food lover who appreciates the art of cuisine, it was disheartening to receive such lackluster and poorly made dosas.
Accompanying the dosas was a chutney that unfortunately shared the same unpleasant smell. The chutney had a sour taste, indicating that it had gone bad. It was clear that the restaurant had not taken proper care to ensure the freshness and quality of their condiments. This oversight further added to our disappointment.
In fairness, when we called the restaurant to express our dissatisfaction, they promptly offered a refund, which we appreciated. However, as food enthusiasts, it is not solely about the financial aspect but also about the joy of savoring a well-prepared meal. Sadly, the poor quality of the food overshadowed any attempt at rectification.
As someone who values culinary experiences, I believe it is essential for restaurants to prioritize providing quality food, even for takeout orders. While the restaurant did provide a refund, it does not excuse the fact that the food we received was far below acceptable standards. As food lovers, we had high hopes for a delightful meal during our journey, only to be left disappointed and questioning our decision to order from this particular establishment.
In conclusion, I urge this restaurant to improve the quality of their food, regardless of whether it is dine-in or takeout. As a food lover, it is disheartening to encounter such subpar dishes and waste both time and money on an unsatisfactory dining experience. While the refund was appreciated, it does not alleviate the disappointment we felt as passionate food enthusiasts. As a result, I cannot recommend this restaurant to fellow food lovers, as it failed to meet even the most basic expectations of quality...

Food: 4 of us ate and we tried a number of dishes. I'll start with the dosas, they were AMAZING. Mysore masala was absolutely delicious (would def reorder this one over and over). It had the right amount of spice for me, but I love spicy so be wary of you're a mild lover. Uttapa was also very flavorful and we loved it.
The sambhar, however was nothing to write home about. Plain not a lot of flavor, although shouldn't be surprised since it's a 'help yourself to the community sambhar' situation in a warming vessel near the front counter. Chutneys were ok too. Didn't really feel I needed them since the food itself was so flavorful.
North Indian fare was less impressive. We had the bhuna and it was tender but we felt it was a little too salty. Garlic naan was on point though. I love biryani, but with the mixed reviews online we skipped it this time. I'll maybe try next time.
Limca and Thumbs Up available in a can...😕😕 meh... Bottles are better but the only reason I can think of is first related as they are probably more expensive to stock compared to the cans so I can't blame them for that, just saying the bottles are better 😜.
Service was ok, def slow hence the reduction in stars but the dosas made it he wait worthwhile. We DID place an order for an extra uttapa but it never came, when we went to inquire they forgot to write it down, so we weren't charged extra, they were getting busy at the time so would probably chalk it up to human error.
Overall this place is worth the visit, for the South Indian fare alone. But be sure to bring the time because you'll be waiting a short while, at the very least, for your for your food. Also it's served on paper/foam plate. I personally didn't really care about that cuz I'm primarily interested in the food, but some people do. Cleanliness wise, it's ok.
Def will retrun at some point soon. Like I said dosas...
Read moreWhoa. I wasn't expecting that!!!! I literally had a flashback to my grandma's house in Bangladesh!! Dude, how are these other bland, sub par restaurants getting 5 stars and these guys aren't?? I understand the interior and experience isn't what people expect, but this is one of those rare places where the food is sooo amazing, you actually get transported somewhere else and you wouldn't care if they had you sitting on the ground to eat this.
This place cooks legit, authentic desi food! I was blown away. The food is culinarily AMAZING and authentic. Everything is properly spiced, and it's the details in the food that really make the dish. Like a traditional korma is made with cashews, the fact that that use a tandoor oven, and you can tell they don't hold back with how they develop flavors!! I was honestly surprised. I'm normally disappointed with a lot of Indian restaurants because I know how good our cuisine can be if cooked properly, but this restaurant is now my favorite. They actually care about what they cook! Omg... their achar tastes like it's made in house and my husband who grew up on Arabic food but is literally in love with Bengali food... he almost cried eating it (lmao).
I understand some people not liking the interior, but for food like this, you don't complain.
I know the interior isn't amazing, but that's why their prices are low for all the labor and ingredients that go into making Indian food. Try cooking yourself and you'll realize it they could easily charge moreby renovating the interior and hiring a waiter-- can easily turn into a fine dining spot with this food, but for people who want top quality food that is affordable, you NEED to...
