Good for my kids bow horrible for anything high end! Looking for a good shop stopped in looking for a top end Hoyt or Mathews the older guy there was really nice seemed knowledgeable let me pull some but not shoot them kind of disappointed. Went back the following weekend for many things. Called first saying I had 2 bows I wanted tuned asked how much the lady gave me a price which turned out not to be true but ok I understand. Also told her I want to buy a bow get 2 tuned, add some accessories etc. which need some work can I make an appointment (no we don’t do a appointment just come in and wait your turn, uggg) Ok so went there waited. First off bought my son a Bear bow they where great tuned it the kid that worked with him spent the time Great experience. Now for me, pulled out my Mathews wanted a drop rest had them put it on did a great job but then he said he had to move my peep ok np. Can you tune it sure, well moved stuff around to his best guess never asked me to do a paper test fire an arrow etc. Got it home and now my grouping went from 4” to maybe 12” something is a miss! Also wanted to buy a thumb release, they had 1 in stock which was to small, asked to buy a HHA single pin site, sorry we are also out of them! The owner has been away and stuff has not been being ordered. So I pull out a Mathews Comp X and tell them I want it set up to me and to get a drop away rest for it and tuned. First thing the mom comes over and goes “did you buy that on ebay” I don’t need the attitude! No I didn’t but I am paying you to set it up. Needed a shorter mod had some mods with me but apparently the son has the book they can’t tell me if my mod will fit, ok… Can I order one, sorry my son is the only one that orders them we don’t allow anyone else to! Even if i am telling you to order one 1/2 shorter and I will pay for it now. Nope, OK! Here are some arrows the fetchings need glues, sorry only my son does that and he is on vacation. This is why I called first! So apparently the store has no stock and no one can order anything or tune anything with out the son there. I went in wanting to spend about $1500-2K+ walked out with a new bow for my son $700ish. Oh and they handed me a card good to tune the bow for one year I took a pic and said I will probably loose this but at least I have a pic. They said that would not work need original card, OK don’t you have a record they said no, need the original card to have any work done by us on the bow you just bought! There are also big signs around the store, a little to much attitude at this shop my experience still haunts me today wish I never bought the bow there or walked in, all I wanted was s friendly fair shop I could spend money at and teach my kid how to shoot at not a headache worrying about this dam card. This is a true mom and son shop with trust issues, poor stock needs better techs etc.
Update A week later Now that Rob was there I though things might be better... So I gave them another shot needed some work done on my daughters bow the peep had moved and was not well tied in and I needed to return the case it didn't fit well the bow I bought there for my son. Went in walked to the counter to return the case they wouldn't said I has to see the owner so a hour weight to see the owner and there return policy is 7 days! I was a few days over I paid $69 for this case they recommended (Note $29 on Amazon) So I had a pep tied in $25 (note the other shop I went to during the week because they could ot tune my comp x box did it for free, not hat I was expecting that. By the time I was done I has a $75 credit my bill was $60 and they would not give money back apparently there policy is only store credit once something is bought! So I read the terms.
*All deposits after 30 days are lost (kept) *7 day return only store credit not money back *Must have original receipt copy's not accepted *Restocking fee So if you plan on buying you can't return for money back only credit for partial value if in 7 days otherwise they won't even...
Read moreEven after having read the negative reviews I decided that Targeteers sounded like a well-stocked facility with experienced staff, and decided to take the ride up there to shop for a bow.
I was delighted to find when I arrived that I was the only customer at that moment. An older gentleman named Bill helped me with a bow selection, and then spent well over an hour setting up the bow with me so that it was properly sighted in and I was comfortable with its operation.
The store is well-sized, well-stocked and the staff are obviously experienced. The indoor range is really nice - clean, professonal and "garnished" with large glassed-in cases with stuffed bear, lion, deer, etc. - very well done.
I give the store an A+. I can understand that, if they get busy, customers are going to wind up waiting a while if not quite a while for service - that's just part of the way it works. My experience was good and I can recommend this facility to someone who wants a large selection of archery product backed up by experienced personnel.
A FOLLOW UP: I had an issue with my bow yesterday - two days after I bought it - in which I must have, through fatigue after firing about 60 arrows, inadvertently rotated slightly the hand holding the bow. The result was that the bow string moved off the pulley and, when the cables detensioned the bow came apart into pieces. I took it up to Targeteers last night and Rob (the owner) not only spent almost an hour with me reassembling and re-tuning the bow (including further time spent helping me shoot arrows and refine my technique) - he refused all payment other than an $11 cable guide which was missing. That's customer service! They are concerned about their negative reviews but don't know exactly how to approach handling them. Whatever - in the meantime I don't hesitate recommending this establishment - they know their business well which means good technical advice when purchasing and then competent...
Read moreI decided to purchase a crossbow in order to pass my hunter's education live archery portion for my NJ hunting license. Searching google, I came across Targeteers Archery pro shop. I called and spoke to a lady who was very informative and polite with regards to me stopping by, and what brands of crossbows they had in stock.
As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by the front desk manager Lorraine and she asked Tasha, who was one of the archery coaches/sales specialist to assist me with my purchase. Tasha is exceptionally patient, provided personal insight along with relevant facts, and she did not try to upsell me on products. We reviewed various and I mean almost every crossbow in stock and ultimately made the selection that met my needs, as a lefty, beginner, but also someone who wants a high quality product that I can grow into. Prior to my final decision, I was informed that they will train me on how to use my crossbow, zero it in at 20 yards, and supervise my first shots until I am comfortable.
Overall, my experience exceeded my expectations, and I have already recommended a few friends to this pro shop. Before I stepped foot at Targeteers I knew very little with regards to archery. An afternoon at Targeteers, and I felt welcomed into the sport and got a real sense of community.
The next day I passed my archery test and sunk my first 3 arrows( correction “bolts”) on target. The hunting course’s instructors amongst other folks at the testing site gave compliments on my crossbow and most crowded around to see me shoot. I told them I picked up my first crossbow less than 24 hrs prior, but they thought I was joking. Big thanks to Tasha and the staff at Targeteers for educating me, providing me with a great product, and kudos to them for their overall professionalism. I Will be going back soon and will likely...
