I read the mixed reviews before coming and decided to take a gamble. For a three-start hotel that was only $60/night, it was worth it. Is it dated? Yes, but the price reflects that—even if you pay more. Overall, it was a clean place to stay for a very reasonable rate. We did have to pay an additional $10/day for a pack-and-play crib (the first time I’ve had to pay in >10 years), but again, given the rate received, it wasn’t that big a deal. However, it was the first of many “signs” that management struggles with being in the hospitality industry. Next, they immediately make you sign a bunch of things attesting you won’t have any guests or visitors at the hotel. As our home base, this felt quite restrictive, even though we had no plans of visitors. They have pickle ball and basketball courts, swimming pool, and pool and fooseball tables, yet the message is you can only play these multi-player attractions with people who came with you. I hated that message, which is, “you can stay here, but don’t bring your friends.” I get that they want to reserve the amenities for people staying at the hotel, but it meant that most of the time the amenities were largely unused. We played in the evening but it got too dark—despite there being flood lighting in the courts, they never bothered to turn them on so we had to quit early (maybe you have to ask them to turn on the lights???) Then they give you breakfast tickets, which is fine, but again overly formal and gives an inhospitable message, again. The two days we were there, nobody was really monitoring the tickets anyway (you just drop them in a little container), which begs the question of whether or not the whole dog and pony ticket show is even worth it. There’s a big line for the waffles, so I didn’t even bother waiting. Eggs, hash-browns, and sausages, plus yogurt and mini muffins. The lighting in the breakfast area is that terrible fluorescent white, so not cozy or inviting at all. It was hard to get a table both mornings we were there (there was what looks like an additional seating area that was closed off—it wasn’t clear if it was for renovations or safety). And don’t get me started on the signage. There are signs EVERYWHERE. EV. ER. Y. WHERE! There were >30 signs in the pool area alone. Again, very unwelcoming. We swam the day we left, but the water was noticeably cloudy in the main pool, and they closed down the hot tub for maintenance (various rumors as to why), which was a little disappointing. We even lost a pool toy because we literally couldn’t see the bottom of the pool because of the cloudiness. The room was very clean, which is obviously the main thing (and the main reason this gets four stars). We loved that we could back the car right up to the door. The room is a bit dated, but comfortable and felt safe, so four stars based on that plus the price is a fair assessment. Overall, would I stay here again? It was cheap and clean, so probably yes, but given the unwelcoming messages, if I could find a similar option I’d probably give something else a try. If you just need a place to crash for the night that’s clean and safe and don’t really care about taking advantage of any of the amenities, this is a good option. If you’re coming FOR the amenities, temper your expectations.

I have loved staying at the Red Lion in St. George MANY times over the last couple years. It has been our go-to place for our many visits. Our last stay here was extremely different. I would not be changing my review from a 5 star to a 1 star based on just one poor experience, but our treatment throughout has been so horrible, especially to guests who stay here so often. We booked one of our usual 2 day visits. We ended up with a toilet that would not flush. We didn't clog it, luckily. We called the front desk and they sent someone into our room to plunge the toilet. The problem persisted so we went to the front desk to let them know. They changed our rooms 7 doors down, both on the bottom floor. We soon found out we had the same problem in this room, so we assumed it was an issue with the whole bottom floor. We did not want to go through changing rooms again. Not to mention it was Thanksgiving weekend and we weren't sure there were even very many rooms available. So we walked outside and into the lobby to use the restroom. When we checked out, we informed the front desk of the problem and let them know it was probably the entire bottom floor plumbing since we had the exact same issue 7 doors down. They apologized and said they would have a manager call us when one was available, which wasn't for a couple of days. A manager called and spoke to my partner, telling him they let out the room again after we informed them it was probably the whole floor, and they had experienced the same issue. My partner was then offered what he thought was a 50% discount. The credit came back to our account as much, much smaller. My partner called to ask why and was told he misunderstood and it was only a 15% around $35. We then received a SECOND call from Red Lion, and called back. The call had no purpose except seemingly to just berate my partner for the mistake. Insisting it was just a 15% and that the whole inconvenience was our fault for using the lobby restroom and not going back to the front desk again, after we had tried to get the problem resolved 3 times already. She was incredibly rude and kept insisting we should've solved the problem on property. We TRIED. We didn't have time to deal with this on this trip. What we didnt expect was for a place we frequent so often to treat us SO poorly and make sure to call us JUST to let us know this was all our fault. It saddens me our family will no longer be staying at our favorite place.

If this was a Motel 6 or Days Inn I would have given it 3 stars. This place is like a cheap motel with a nice-looking pool and kid-friendly activities attached to it. We came here on a holiday weekend, so most other places were crazy-priced or booked up. I just wish I had known this was more like an old motel, not a 3-star hotel, so I had more accurate expectations (and probably would have gone somewhere else). The plus points about this place are they had eggs for breakfast and the bed was comfortable. However, the first room we were put in looked clean enough though old and a bit run down. Unfortunately, it had a strong fragrance smell that was too overwhelming. At that point, my husband and I were no longer interested in staying here so tried to go back and ask for a refund. We didn't make reservations ahead of time, we just walked in and booked a room not 10 minutes earlier. However, the person at the front desk insisted we would have to pay a $50 cancelation fee. When asking to speak to a manager, there wasn't one there. Instead, they offered to change us to another room. The second room was similar except there wasn't a strong smell. Though the neighbors, who looked to be there long-term, were smoking right outside the non-smoking rooms. So there was a faint cigarette smell in our room. This room also had a fold-out bed, and when we went to pull it out there were crumbs all over the couch under the cushions. It had not been vacuumed in a while. The shower looked clean enough except there was mold and hair on the bottom of the shower curtain (pictured). So, we were going to just keep the shower curtain on the outside of the tub, except the tub was slow to drain. If we showered the water would have started to pool and I was already dubious about how clean it was, I didn't want to stand in backed-up water. Sadly we didn't even get a nice shower out of the deal. And the room rates were over $200 at the time. We should have just spent the extra $100 and stayed at a nice hotel.

We stayed here last year and loved it. This year was a different story all around. We loved it so much last year we came back again this year. We hoped that staying here would be a new tradition full of sweet memories for us. I’m concerned after this past visit. We booked a jacuzzi suite, checked in and were given our room. Went to use the restroom in our room and got glass in my foot. Upon further inspection there were numerous shards of glass all over. I called down and maintenance came up with a first aid kit and a new set of room keys. We went to the second room and there was a horrible smell, like backed up sewage or drains that hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. There was also dirty rags, half empty water bottles and trash on the floor. I called again and the same man came up and we went to a third room. It was not the same type we’d booked but it was bigger and I was over moving rooms. I had a hurting foot and a disappointed child. The third room was “nicer” but had a lot of areas of disrepair. My daughter almost got hurt opening the cabinets due to broken hinges. The particle board was crumbling and one of two a/cs didn’t work. There was also black mold spots in the tub, jets and grout areas. Also, there was food left in the drawers from the previous guests. There was a receipt from 6/24. We were there 7/2. Not a lot of confidence in their cleaning abilities. Another major concern is the pool was open, albeit murky water. The pool lights were ripped out of the pool and dangling their wires into the water. This was a major concern. Though reported, the pool stayed open the whole time. I appreciate that I was moved from room to room but that is unacceptable. I should not have been injured, which became infected and needed medical treatment. The managers should not be avoiding talking to me. I don’t like to publicly call things out but I’ve been watching how quickly reviews get responses so maybe this is the only way?

Visited on May, 16th 2024 Paid $93.56 for Two Queen Beds, for one night through Expedia on my day of arrival. Arrived after 7pm and was greeted and checked in by someone with great customer service skills, and no name tag. She had long curly hair and was a pleasure to deal with. The smell of chlorine in the lobby, and the humidity from the pool is a little bit much. The property is a little dated however the price was right. Room was okay. Patio door blocked by chair that really is in the way. AC was nice and cold! There was an odor in the room and I started to investigate and found leftover food in the fridge(see photo). Disgusting and the reason for a four star review. The view from our room was unpleasant, all you can really see are pool chemicals. They have a lot of good outlets next to the bed. The office chair was in the way as it doesn’t fit under the desk so had to move it away. Religious book choices. It appears to be a ADA room however the bathroom was tiny. Beds were okay and the room could use updating. Microwave was helpful. Connected to a restaurant who offers 35% for guests. There are plenty of options for kids of all ages, basketball court, mini golf, pool table, foosball table, indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub. The free coffee around 9am was cold, another reason for a 4 star rating. Breakfast was decent. Biscuit, gravy, toast, waffles, eggs, potatoes, sausage, juice assortment, coffee that was hot, fruit, and yogurt. Be sure to tip the people working breakfast and BUS YOUR OWN TABLE. All in all worth the money if you have a family as there are plenty for the kids to do and close the interstate.

Every review I saw about this place is true except their response that “they’re thankful for the comments and are working on it.” The owners of this hotel are milking it out of every penny it earns and are clearly not investing in improving their guest experience. They’re trying to show to the next buyer how much money it nets by deferring every example of discretionary maintenance. If it doesn’t make the books look better (and thus the valuation), they’re not interested in improving it. To whomever buys this hotel from the current ownership group, BEWARE, it’s not a good investment. The financial performance does not reflect management’s commitment to disregarding even the simplest guest request for improvement. The exorbitant costs to bring this property up to standards needs to be closely considered in any purchase decisions. They’re milking this place and cooking the books for every dime they can get. Management is running such an incredibly intentional operation of cost cutting to not even have acceptable toilet paper!!! Staff reported they’re under paid, feedback is ignored (or are afraid to share their observations) and miserable. This hotel KNOWS its issues and they applaud their corporate direction to drain the property. I challenge Management (who replies to nearly every post) to provide any example of issues raised on past reviews here which have actually been addressed. Hotel has the opportunity to be something special, but the ownership group is only interested in cooking the books.
