My wife and I come to St. George every 3 months for 4 days. For the past 2 years we have stayed at this Red Roof Inn. We are super low maintenance tenants needing only sleep, a place to keep or things and to clean up. This past weekend we arrived around11:30 pm on Saturday night put our things away and it seriously sounded like a train was back and forth above our room. After an hour of complaining to each other we went to call the front desk but the room phone was totally dead (probably not in service anymore). So we then called Red Roof from the cellphone with only a message because it was after hours (1:30am). (understandable?), I was furious as it was well over an hour and had not let up, continually getting louder. So I got dressed and went upstairs and knocked on the door hoping for someone reasonable to answer. I was shocked when the door opened and without exaggerating there were what looked like 20 Mexican refugees in this room, standing room only. There were 3 women in the far corner directly ahead and a number of toddlers on the floor in clear sight when to guy opened the door. Many more bodies on the beds but I could not see well as the wall blocked the rest of the view. I told them that we were below and wanted to sleep and it was 1:30 in the morning so could they stop! One of the ladies shouted from the back "You have no right to tell us what to do". I replied: "maybe the cops will shut you up". I backed up and realized maybe I was out numbered and out of my league on this one. I then returned to my room super angry as the noise continued. My wife went to the front desk where the manager, Fred, scolded her for me going to the room directly and not coming to him. She explained that we tried to call to no avail and he didn't care - we were the "bad guys". for asking it to stop. He told her that we cost him $300 dollars because they were checking out. Apparently because they were mad at me going up? She asked how many people could be in a single room and they said 4. She said they are refugees, and he said they had IDs defensibly. She told him that there were 20 people in one room and he argued no, and that he would have to look it up on the camera but wasn't willing to do so on the spot. They noise never subsided and we got zero sleep. I did not go back up to the room as I know my personality and I would have lead to me being arrested. The noise lasted until 8am when we got out in the morning so they obviously never left. We were very loyal customers but will never stay at this place again. Even for $50 a night this kind of nonsense is unacceptable. It's not really clean or well kept but for the price it had always been the next step above camping which was acceptable. But when the rolls reverse and we become the enemy because of calling out someone who is not doing things right - I am done!. I never leave reviews but this one was justified. I am not ok with sheltering the refugees and making them VIPs. We work hard and contribute to society properly. I want no part of this Red Roof Inn...
Read moreWhat a joke of a hotel with non-existent customer service. Unfortunately due to a sudden death in the family, we had to book a room extremely last minute through Expedia - because that's the fastest way I could find a grouping of hotels in one area that were pet-friendly. I've never stayed at this hotel before and am not from St. George, so how would I know this hotel exists if not for searching for options?
Because of the short timeframe that we booked and needed to check-in (technically less than 24 hrs), we missed the window to cancel without penalty nearly immediately after booking. Again, traveling for a funeral, so information we were getting from family members changed very rapidly. We ended up needing to book in a town 45 minutes away, and I tried to cancel through Expedia. Unfortunately, Expedia's customer service/virtual agent was not responding to me - not the hotel's fault, but Expedia's, which is a separate issue.
So I call the hotel first thing this morning to let them know the situation - because on top of trying to plan last-minute travel and coordinate care for our pets, and you know, the /funeral/, AND finishing my work day yesterday - the person who answers the phone asks me why I would book through a third-party agency that I can't contact, and why I wouldn't book directly through them instead?
Again ... how would I know you exist? I'm traveling for a funeral, not a vacation, I don't have time to be doing that? So first, asshole thing to say. Second, he's not helpful at all about the cancellation and unclear about whether I'd still be charged the cancellation fee since that's why I was calling. I hang up and try to contact Expedia, and my husband calls the hotel and proceeds to try and ask for a manager to solve this situation. The same person who answered and spoke to me immediately gets defensive and proceeds to hang up on my husband like four times. Then doesn't answer when the Expedia rep tries to call them.
Unbelievably terrible customer service - nonexistent, really. And we haven't even stayed at the hotel yet. Based on this experience alone, a joint-bad experience with Expedia honestly, I would never recommend this...
Read moreI booked the Red Roof Inn for my visit to St. George to attend the Utah Music Educators Association Conference, February 2020. I booked a two night stay and requested a high floor room.
Upon arrival I was given keys to a first floor room. When I approached the room, I noticed the door was ajar. My colleague and I tentatively entered and searched the room to make sure it wasn't already occupied.
The pictures we had seen on the website were incredibly inaccurate. The comforters were brownish yellow, dingy, and an estimated 20+ years old. They also had large visible holes in them. We folded back the top layer of bedding and immediately noticed a hair on the sheets. There were no lamps in the room at all. There was an unused TV mount on the wall, but the TV was sitting on top of the entertainment center. The towels were very old, thin, and one even had a faded yellow stain.
The second day my colleague was in the room napping. We had the "Do Not Disturb/Privacy Please" sign on the doorknob, but she was woken by persistent knocking on the door. The knocking continued until she literally yelled out, "No!"
Some positive features: The price was fantastic and the location was just 4-5 minutes drive from the Dixie Convention Center. I suspect the hotel is going through a renovation, as the bathroom shower and vanity were very beautiful, clean and new. The flooring was also quite new looking; a very nice faux wood. The room had both a microwave and mini-fridge, which was very helpful.
I would STRONGLY suggest to the management that they keep better tabs on their housekeeping, and don't rent out rooms that are mid-way through the renovation stages. Also, the first thing you should renovate is that nasty bedding.
Despite everything, I would consider staying at the Red Roof Inn again, because I think it has great potential to be a nice place to stay if they figure out the issues above. I apologize that I forgot to take any photos of our experience, I would have liked others to know what the bedding...
