Riverfront Park Playground — Attraction in Salem

Very fun place! My grandchildren love it! My only complaint is people smoking on or near the playground. For health and safety reasons we've had to leave a few times. Cigarette smoke can be dangerous for kids and anyone else who has asthma. The number 1 reason kids go into cardiac arrest is due to respitory issues and having little ones with asthma means we have to stay away from smokers. We love coming here on weekdays when it's not so busy. On the weekends, keeping track of your kid is like searching for a needle in a haystack. Give lessons with decent equipment, and a smaller play area for little ones. They do need more swings as there are only 2 regular (and 2 for toddlers) and it's nearly impossible to catch one free. It was disappointingly crowded (and surprisingly maskless) in the play area itself but people were mostly respectful along the walking paths. The picnic tables and trash cans have been moved to discourage groups and the result is a nice wide mostly flat area with low traffic.
