Free tour, about an hour, and will interest people of all ages. At the end you get free food samples. This week we got chocolate milk at the dairy. Most of you know that volunteer missionaries from the LDS church teach about Christ. All missionaries also spend time each week doing service. Some missionaries are assigned to spend 100% of their time serving. All across the world the church has food banks and employment centers and home storage centers and thrift stores. Salt Lake City has a facility you can actually tour--guided by missionaries, naturally. (This day one missionary from DFW Forney, Texas, and one from Samoa.) At the Salt Lake location they distribute every food, but they also bake certain breads, can certain vegetables and meats, make milk and cheese, and even make ketchup. Those "factories" are staffed partly by paid employees and partly by volunteers (full-time service missionaries and local people). You, too, can volunteer at any of the locations around the world, but as a tourist the only one available (that I know of) is in Salt Lake City. Read moreWelfare Square is an extraordinary place where the goodness of humankind can be seen. This location is a place where volunteers give their time and effort to provide food and other basic necessities for those in need while helping them to get back on their feet and provide for their own needs. Not only does Welfare Square provide for people in need now, Welfare Square is prepared to provide aid in times of natural disaster for the area surrounding it: not just for one month, but at least three months. I encourage all to visit this place to have their hearts touched by what people can do to help their fellow man. If someone needs help in seeing the good in people, this is the place to see the good in a lot of people. I definitely saw this while I was there and it makes me want to go out...
Read moreLove learning about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Welfare system. Been here twice for the tour and each time has been a little different. Sadly, no cannery visit today as it's under renovation for the next few months. Tours rin when there's enough people in the visitor's center (located next to the Bishop's storehouse) to start a tour. Learn how they make their dairy products, bread and powdered goods and how it benefits those in need all around the world. Tours seem to last about an hour and starts with a six minute overview video before waking the square with...
