Extra Space Storage — Attraction in San Antonio

I rented two units here while I was living across the Country. On the day I made it to clean them out, I was going back and forth between the two units- my upstairs unit still had the lock on the door, while being cracked opened slightly, giving access to the movers I had that were there helping - there were still several items in this unit indicating it was still in use (I was fully up to date on payment) however while I was in the unit on the first floor cleaning it out, the facility manager went into my upper unit at some point and stole a 8x4 homeschooling board. I brought it to his attention the following day stating that it was missing, he admitted to taking it, while gaslighting me saying it was just a board and to get over it. I told him it was “my board” and to return it and he never did. I made a police report that day on the premise and have been waiting for management above his position to contact me back, despite making a couple calls and leaving messages I have yet to receive a return phone call.

As you can see it was more than “just a board”, he stole all my homeschooling posters, shelves, the light and other accessories that were securely mounted...

We have been storing items at this Extra Space for one year. Initially, I would have said our experience was good - the staff were friendly and the monthly price was decent for an air conditioned indoor unit. However, when we went to move our items out, we found that a rat had somehow gotten into our air conditioned, indoor, second floor unit and chewed up our $4,000 sofa. The couch was not usable or sellable at this point. I was not concerned because I knew that I had been paying $25 per month for insurance to cover such damage for the entire term of our rental. When I submitted an insurance request for reimbursement for the damage, I was told the insurance did not cover such damage. In fact, I learned the insurance company disclaimed liability for almost all types of damage. I had paid $350 for insurance that covered nothing. When I tried to contact the insurance company to dispute this, no one would even return my phone call. Mr.James Klinek was simply outstanding! I had made a reservation for one unit but due to life happenings and recently having had a big move from Europe back to the US with many things to do, I kept missing my appointment with him to see the unit. Mr. Kliinek continued to call me and push my unit move in date back so I could still have time to see the unit to determine if the size was right for me and keep the price I had locked in on online. He was very patient and courteous with me. He went out his way to make feel comfortable. He even notified me of an additional military discount of 5%....wow, who knew? Due to his excellent customer service and understanding, I winded up purchasing two units instead of just one.
