We recently moved to San Antonio and have been looking for a church to call home. We had attended several churches before deciding to call Oak Hills Church home for many reasons.
Some of those reasons include warmth and love, which is a huge deal for us. Our lives have changed dramatically in such a short period of time and we needed a sense of security. Oak Hills Church saw us and heard us. We didn't feel like we were just another number or face. The staff is warm and loving and when we left that first Sunday we knew there was something Papa was doing there and wanted to be part of it.
We appreciated the boldness of Pastor Travis with the church and I can't wait to see where that strong leadership and obedience of Pastor Travis takes the chuch spiritually. Thank you and may you never feel the need to apologize for what the Lord has etched on your heart Pastor Travis.
As a mom who recently sent 3 adult children, all at once, off to be in the world, with one still at home, my mama heart has been nothing slight of torn. So when I saw a bible study that involved how to help with spiraling thoughts I decided to sign up. Through this I have met some of the most amazing friends of which I am ever so grateful.
My youngest daughter is about to enter high school and lots of change has equally occurred in her life, not just mine. An opportunity came to her to volunteer with the littles of the church and this has really helped give my daughter a newfound purpose as well as something to look forward to weekly. She loves volunteering with the toddlers and can't wait for more opportunity to take on the responsibilities of being a church memeber at Oak Hills.
We definitely don't just need a "feeling" to come over us to know OHC is a wonderful church that is not faith if a "feeling" is what you're looking for. The opportunity to be apart of the spiritual body of Christ is alive at this church and our family is exponentially inviting it into our life.
Last part of our initial experience with OHC was a handwritten postcard from Michelle after our first visit. We were missing our family that week. Both my daughter and I were crying a little throughout that week and feeling the emptiness of our recently shifted family. When that postcard came in the mail it really lifted our spirits knowing someone was praying for our family and that we had the most important backing anyone could ever have-- Holy Spirit!
Thank you Jesus for igniting the staff and pastors at OHC with who you are and what being a Christian is all about. Thank you for seeing us and acknowledging us and sharing in this different way of life. I know Christ is alive and I know for certain OHC has there lamps lit...
Read moreI’ve been a member here at Oak Hills for a couple years now. I was part of the Young Professionals Group. There was an incident that occurred within the group. When brought to the church’s attention they didn’t handle it the best and was not clear with information being provided to the group members. The YG Group was removed from the churches website and is no longer an official group with the church. There was zero communication from church leaders or officials with the members of the group. We were never told about the situation, about the group being closed, about us not being on the website- we were left hopeless by the church. No church officials ever came to our group to have a meeting or discussion. All the church did was sweep the issue under the rug, close and remove the group, and abandoned us in the abyss. I believe the church could have handled it much better, they could have communicated with us and walked beside us through the process. I understand the issue that occurred probably never happened before at a small group, and it was new for the church to navigate. But they did a bad job. I feel like they were more concerned about their image and reputation vs caring about the people. I love oak hills, it is still my home church. But I am disappointed, it’s been months and months since this has happened and still zero official response from the church .
Will post any updates as/ if they come: Update 8/7/2024 There still has been no communication from the church to the group. The church got rid of the Young Professionals Group. They got rid of it completely and changed the name entirely.. kinda like starting “new” starting “fresh”. It feels like they are trying to hide and they want to get rid of any trace of the old group and start all over. The new group that has been created is called “ 20 Somethings Sunday | 5:30 PM” starting over isn’t an ideal resolution or response. Talking to your members, being into communication is key. It’s very unsettling that there is zero trace of the YG group, everything has been swept under the rug and the church is starting over without ever addressing the...
Read moreWas in town for son's air force basic training graduation & realized "Max Lucado's church is out here"! But said to self "yeah but what are the chances Max Lucado himself will be in town? It's probably his associate pastor speaking etc". Meanwhile back to son's graduation.. His girlfriend made him this "congratulations! " poster which featured a Bible reference: "Love..endures all things" from 1 Corinthians 13:7. Well, on our way back to the airport on Sunday morning to fly back to California & Utah we had just enough time to attend service at Oak Hills San Antonio. First thing noticed how beautiful church is. The main sanctuary is HUGE! The people were very welcoming (southern hospitality). The worship songs were wonderful but I was still leaning over & telling my wife "I'm sure Max Lucado won't be here, but this is still great etc" Well, guess what? MAX LUCADO was there! Definitely my favorite (well known) pastor, and just is what it is, NOBODY else's books are better etc. So yeah, this was truly exciting. (Oh too, yeah was a little "starstruck" lol but Pastor Max was very humble & unassuming) I was praying "Lord meet us where we're at". And yes, God answered that prayer, big time. Anyone wanna guess what passage Pastor Max Lucado was speaking on this particular Sunday morning? Because it was 1 Corinthians 13:7 just like my son's graduation poster a few days before. Coincidence?? Uhmm, no way. There are 750,000 words in the Bible & the Lord made sure the (perhaps) most loved pastor in America was there to personally meet us in our lowly estate & speak on OUR (so special to us at the time) passage from the New Testament. Thank YOU Jesus & thank you Pastor Max Lucado for being available for the Lord to use to minister to our small unknown group of 3 people from out of town. God really spoke to us through that message. I don't know if you'll remember that sermon but we will never forget. Praise the Lord & God bless this...
