I'm not one to write bad reviews but we just came home from Mi Familia for Mother's Day dinner and we had the worst experience!
I'm going to give my approximate time frame of interaction with the server and my experience. We arrived around 4:30pm. I will note that we have a large family (2 adults and 5 small children). The host at front told us the wait would be about 40 minutes for a party our size, but it might be sooner as they just seated a couple of large parties before us. Seeing as we had small children, the host offered to seat us in a booth since we wouldn't need much room. His offer to accommodate us was very nice and appreciated.
Once seated, we waited for about 7 to 10 minutes before our first interaction with our server. He (and other servers) passed us multiple times without saying, "I'll be with you." or "Your server will be with you." My wife finally got up and went to the front to grab menus and crayons for our kids to color. When the server finally introduced himself, he took our drink order. We thankfully also ordered the kids food items at the same time. During the approximate next 10 minutes, we did receive salsa and chips, but no silverware or napkins. I asked for silverware and napkins (which we could see near the the entrance of the dining area). I thought since we asked, he would turn around and get them for us seeing we had chips and salsa, but he didn't.
The whole time we were waiting, the owner (or maybe someone from upper management) was chatting with an older couple across the booth. He didn't even bother checking up on us. Besides our family, there was maybe 3 other tables in the area the server was working. The older couple seemed a bit flustered that their order hadn't been taken yet and the owner (or manager) finally sent someone else to take their order. While we were trying to keep the kids happy with drinks, our 18 month old spilled some water. We still hadn't received any silverware or napkins, so my wife got up and grabbed a paper towel. She was about to get silverware too when the server finally brought some out.
The kids food hadn't come yet, and the server never asked if we were ready to order, so my wife and I decided to skip our order and just ask for the check. The server really wasn't paying attention to us, and it almost seemed intentional. I told the server that we weren't going to order food and that we would like the check. He asked if we still have wanted the the kid's food, and I told him only if was close to being ready. He said it actually ready now. Maybe five minutes later, the food comes out with our check. Despite my disgust with the lack of service, I still gave him a 15% tip.
I went to the host in the front to complain after I paid. And the host received the complaint, he said, "I'll let them know". In translation, I don't care. He didn't offer to have us speak with the manager, or take my name and number to follow up. I got the vibe that they do not care about us. Other tables were being taken care of more consistently than us. This is not my first time being at Mi Familia and I am very disappointed in the service tonight.
We were at the restaurant for a little...
Read moreI love eating out, trying new places. This is second time I tried to give this place a chance. Both times were horrible however this one was the worst in both food/service:
Cleanliness- Tables were very clean, atmosphere was very nice, Restrooms very clean!! I really loved how clean those Restrooms were, especially with my medical needs.
Price- Overpriced compared to portion size of food, very expensive.
Food- Had no taste, very little on the plate, very expensive and poor quality. I ordered the cheese enchiladas this time around thinking it was "safe". They burnt the tips of the enchiladas, smothered it in tasteless sauce and weak on the beans/rice sides. My grandmother gave me one of her tamales to try. It was horribly dry and still had husk/bone pieces from the pork. Both my grandmother and myself are sick with diarrhea. (Hence why writing this in the middle of night). By the way if order Guacamole they fill it with all shredded lettuce and top it with small amount of Guacamole.
Service- The cleaning staff/busers were extremely nice enjoyed conversations with them. However the waitress staff appeared very irritated/stressed. Even our waitress was short with us, when I asked for water/help was told to "wait" then she went to person right next to me who orders water and she writes that one down instead. She then came back to me asked what I wanted , said water .. in the end I didn't want to bother her since she appared stressed.
Manager Incident- My mom asked the waitress for a To-Go container. Before my mom went to the restroom she had her plate of barely touched food prepared for the To-Go container. As mentioned before the Cleaning/Busers are very nice and very efficient. Unfortunately they mistakenly picked up the food while my mom was gone so when my mom came back she let waitress know. Floor Manager JC came over and when starting to explain the situation he immediately said he can replace meal but there will be a charge. Even after re-explaining what occurred it was not until I pulled out my phone to record the conversation he changed his tune. A few moments later I walked to bakery to look at the baked goods. I guess floor manager JC did not realize I was near because in the back I could hear him talking to another floor manager Cessa complaining about us. (I asked waitress who that guy was in the back) That plate being picked up is an honest mistake however this floor manager handled it so bad mom was afraid they sabotage the food so she never ate it in the end.
Overall, the cleaning staff/busers and clean restrooms were the best things about this place. I had so much fun talking with them, especially the very nice old lady (sorry i forgot name) However I cannot recommend this place at all. Very expensive, bad food and bad...
