I've been to the Vogt Auction house twice now, once for fine art and another for the recent (August 2023) Hecho en Mexico auction. They get in beautiful pieces, many of amazing quality. The pieces are on display for about a week before the auction so there is a good opportunity to see what is to be auctioned in advance. Every person in the place, including the guys in the warehouse seems to have an extraordinary knowledge of the arts. There are many content specialists that cover the gamut of their sales, including fine arts, folk arts, furniture, guns, jewelry and even oddities such as Samurai warrior costumes, giant pineapple sculptures, well known artists and obscure ones. In these auctions "everything goes" and they mean it....if there is someone there (or online) that is breathing and can raise their card, the item will sell. Interesting things happen in such a place!
The auction itself is really entertaining. The owner, Gene Vogt is there for a few hours, and he is so funny it would be worthwhile to go just to hear what he will say. His son, Rob Vogt is the auctioneer and he gets in on the humor with his father....good naturedly parrying his father's jokes while the auction goes on. It is a family business and I gather the whole family is involved and show up for the auction. Rob is not a scary auctioneer...he makes it easy to get involved and to make bids....although once he says "sold" it is final.
The people are very helpful and efficient and helped me get my purchases in my car and were very accurate in getting the correct lots for me. Everyone is respectful, helpful and give the best customer service experience I've had in...
Read moreI cannot say enough positive things about the family-owned and operated business called Vogt Auction Galleries. As an admirer and collector of various antiquities, I’ve had opportunity to see and do business with many different auction entities for well over 25 years. I’ve seen the good, the bad, and yes, the ugly. My experiences with Vogt have always been nothing short of superfluous and beyond delightful. They knock it out of the park every time I engage them whether it’s before, during and/or after an auction. From the senior Vogt family patriarch down to the most recent new hire, exceptional customer-focused service runs throughout the business and is genuinely embedded in every employee. They delight in delighting their customers. In comparison to other auction entities throughout the US, Vogt comes into sharp contrast as that entity that is truly unique, genuine and special. They honestly care about their customers (as well as their employees) and they demonstrate that care daily. I truly feel honored to be one of Vogt’s customers and am looking forward to our future...
Read moreHad good experience for years there but last attempted sale was a big failure for me . Two trailers of doors were taken to SA and despite notification, were unprepared either with adequate help or storagevspace. Probably 20 pair of Mexican and European doors were listed as individuals lowering their value significantly. Simple laziness in listing. Probably cost me 100/ pr or more. Worse, 2 dozen trays of hardware( knobs, plates, handles) were listed as a single lot. That cost me a fortune! Practically no buyer was suited to buy that much at once and limited bidding to one or two possibilities. The trays alone were worth $10 ea. some of the trays were worth $200( solid brass, embossed. Their moronic listing cost me $2000-$3000. They took over $ 5000 and ruined my auction. Then to add pain they omitted paying me for the hardware lot for weeks and I only got $25/ tray, guess they were so embarrassed how they handled it they were afraid to let me know how bad I was...
