Confusion Escapes — Attraction in San Bernardino

My family of four just played the Christmas Treehouse room - this was our 113th room, and we had a great time. We haven’t played the regular Treehouse room but thought the Christmas mod was cute and well done.

Overall, I think the main room is super cute, had good production value, and was spacious enough for the four of us to run, crawl and climb around but I think a larger group (6+) will just get in each other’s way. We really liked that the room is pretty non-linear - each participant gets tasked with following a different “path” of clues and puzzles. You can help each other but need to get your own track done, which is a unique format we hadn’t experienced before. However, the one thing that prevented this from being an outstanding room is the sheer number of traditional locks and locked boxes throughout the room.

Our post-room analysis surmises that perhaps because it was a Christmas version, adding boxes with locks on them was the easiest way to convert the room without disturbing the 2nd gen puzzles lying dormant from the original, but we generally dislike solving for multiple 4-digit codes and having to stick them into every lock in the room to figure out which locks they open.

We might have rated this room a 3/3.5 but rounded up to 4 because of our helpful and cheery GM Emily, who was great about offering help but understanding that we didn’t want actual hints unless we asked for them.

Just leaving this review for anyone else who calls to reserve a room. (Make sure you get confirmation of some sort.) I called on October 31st, two hours before the last available time slot, and got "the last job." I called to confirm if the availability was still open and whether I should book it over the website or over the phone. The woman said it was a preference depending on who was booking, so I said great and asked to book over the phone for two people (as I am someone who prefers to make reservations over the phone rather than online). The woman said, "Okay, you're booked," and put the phone down without giving me a chance to respond. I waited a bit, surprised at how quickly the call ended, and when there was no further response, I hung up, assuming that my reservation had been made. I then drove for one hour and twenty minutes to the escape room. When I arrived and gave my name, the lady at the front desk said she remembered speaking to me and thought I had said I was going to book online. She informed me that she had not reserved a spot for me and that the last available time slot had been booked by someone else. This was very disappointing, as I had been planning to take my little sister to her first escape room. The only solution she offered was for us to purchase three tickets for the Treehouse escape room, even though I only had two players. which left me feeling unsatisfied. I hope future visits...

I had to edit the review for many reasons so here it is!

I have played more than 30+ rooms here in Southern California. I love scary themed rooms with actors because the scare factor adds adrenaline to the experiences and more memories. Mostly with scary rooms, I have had okay experiences with puzzles: some are too easy, some being too random, few for lacking connections with the theme, and some are too experience based than puzzles.

We found this business on Morty app with positive reviews and booked it with similar expectations.

But it turned out to be so much better than my expectations! It had good puzzles, needed communication skills, different aspects to the experience, and super immersive! I dont want to give away too much information for future players, but everything about the experience was very very very positive and well thought out.

So I had to come back for other rooms although they are not scary themes. I had high expectations of puzzles and played the other two in one day.

And they are my top 3 out of all rooms I have escaped! I was amazed and I dived in so deep to the experience, I forgot about the time limit. The puzzles were clean and fun. I am almost sad realizing I dont have any more to play in this establishment!
