Easily my favorite farmer's market in San Diego! Great area. Overly easy access to Hillcrest Brewing for a nice beer, good people and your market goodies are allowed in the outdoor area. Parking isn't easy, but it's most definitely worth it. The south side is basically fresh made food of all sorts and the north side is a true market style venue with various produce, cheeses, meats, oils, bakes and so much more like flowers, sheets, shades and other assorted shopperies. Coffee trailer at the North side is fantastic and if you go on a lucky weekend you can get your knives sharpened by a great professional that often parks near the aforementioned coffee trailer. I highly recommend the herbal tea about half way on the south and east side, the man unmistakable has free samples, and if you've never had San Diego BBQ you're missing out. Yes, this is the place for the best Philly which is usually perched next to the best french fries. This all just happens to be within fair distance from the Hillcrest Brewing porch in case you're a SD Beer drinker like the rest of us. The worst part of this market is the best part... Too many...
Read moreOpens on Sundays between 11 am to 2 pm. Good range of stalls with fresh organic produce and plants on one side and mostly food stalls on the other side. Check parking spaces on the website to plan your trip to avoid quite long waits if you are driving.
For fresh organic produce and “farmers market experience in a city” prices tend to be on the high end, but not unexpected. The cooked food for most part is extortionate for what you get, especially as there is nowhere to sit. However, one of the few exceptions, House of Bao, outstanding for dumplings. I ended up getting a mixed box of 17 dumplings. This alone is worth coming back for.
There is an energy of a real workers farmers market that is a lot of fun, not sure if you get those in California. But this (in general) is a more polished artisan market experience, not the raw pumping heart of sights, sounds and smells of those you find in Europe/UK and Asia or more rural...
Read moreA terrific assett for locals that takes place every week adjacent to the DMV in Hillcrest. One entire street is blocked off and vendors are stationed on both sides as patrons linger trying various freebee samples along the way. Plenty of organic produce is there.
One half the street caters to the farmers and their fresh produce. The other half has a number of vendors offering food of all types but, mostly cooked meats. Not much in the way of vegan if that is your dietary preference.
A massage therapist and a couple of other service based venues run adjacent on the sidewalk in front of the DMV parking lot. A live band performs in the center of the market in a location that everyone can enjoy.
All in all, it's a good way to enjoy that consistently sunny San Diego weather, enjoy a little music, and possibly walk away with some fresh,...
