MOUTHSATIONAL PIZZA ! It's been seven long years since my wife and I last visited this pizza restaurant...and we didn't live anywhere near La Jolla back then. NOW WE DO ! After moving into our townhome not far away we have been enjoying all sorts of new local dining experiences. A really good pizza joint is hard to find and then we remembered how much we enjoyed the pizzas & calzones here years ago. On Sunday we headed over this way for dinner. A LITTLE TRICKY ! But first we had to get through the boom gate at the entrance to the parking lot. Mmmmm charging diners for parking !!!! We took a ticket and found a parking spot pretty close to the restaurant. VERY BUSY ! It was around 5.30pm when we walked inside. Within 60 seconds a tall friendly guy named Cary who looked like the manager offered his help pointing to the pizza service counter to order pizza and then the craft beer counter to order beer. So my wife lined up at the pizza counter and ordered a Chicago Meat Lovers ( Deep Dish ) Pizza...one size ( 14 inch ) fits all. It's a 40 minute wait for one of these babies but we knew that beforehand. COOL ! And then I asked Cary ( who we found out is a co-owner ) about our parking lot ticket. He explained that he can validate it and that will give us 1 hour 15 minutes to enjoy dinner without having to pay for any parking. GREAT ! My wife took our table no 41 to a nice spot near the bar. I fronted up and asked Brendan the bartender what hazy IPA's he had on tap ? He reeled off a list of 3 and one stood out...number 7. Would you like a splash ( sample ) Brendan offered...sure thing I said. And that's what I ordered....a Humble Sea / North Park collab called "Fog Force 4" - New England Hazy DIPA - 8.5% abv. As soon as I returned to our table I took a couple of pics of my juicy looking hazy DIPA...and then I took a big slurp. YIPPE KI YAY....for sure one of the better beers I've tried in recent years. In fact another customer walked up to our table and said what did you get ?...I saw you take a photo of your beer. The guy headed straight to the bar and ordered one. OH NO ! My wife asked me about the validated parking ticket and darn if I hadn't lost it. I mentioned this to Cary the co-owner and he said he would take care of that for us when we leave. ROCK 'N' ROLL ! Our totally amazing looking Chicago Meat Lovers Pizza arrived...it looked big enough to feed the Roman Army. We grabbed a huge slice each and dug in....totally delicious. It's been donkey years since we had something similar in Chicago. One of the managers named Mario dropped by to see how we were doing....we had a nice chat. THE JOINT WAS ROCKIN" ! There were new customers streaming in every minute...they all know where to get a great pizza. I asked Mario for a box for our leftover pizza....which was most of it. TIME TO LEAVE ! And to his word Cary the super friendly co-owner followed us out to the parking lot and took care of our parking ticket mishap. WHAT A...
Read moreLet me just start this review by saying I absolutely love this place!!! I moved from San Diego five years ago and came here once and liked it. Well while returning back to enjoy the local aquarium in La Jolla I mentioned to my friends about Regents, and said we should go there for lunch. Everyone was hesitant but I assured them that the food was good. Pulling up there was little to no hassle for parking and they were able to accommodate 11 of us including one newborn within two minutes of arriving. Once we were all settled in we all took a glance at the menu and went to the front to order. They have a very wide selection of beers on tap from local craft, out of state and of course domestic. I’m usually hesitant to ask for samples of the beer because typically that frustrates bartenders, especially when it’s busy. But the woman working gladly let me try three different beers and not make me feel like I was a problem at all. Not only was I pleased with that, I was also pleased with the murky hazy IPA I chose. After that our food was ordered and out to us in less than 10 minutes. You might find it hard to believe but I feel like it was some of the best food, service and whether I’ve had in a long time. All the food was excellent and cooked to perfection. The way I explained it to some of our friends was that the food that was fried tasted like the oil was clean. We had a medium pepperoni pizza, a meat lovers Chicago slice, side order of fries and three Nashville spicy wings. We did not finish it all but were extremely happy to take it all home. Usually when you eat this type of food other places you feel horrible either right after or shortly after. We felt content with all the food and enjoy the leftovers later. I know this review is lengthy but I felt that the great food and service deserved a well explained review. Kudos to the owners of Regents pizzeria, you have a fine establishment with great and friendly staff. Unfortunately La Jolla has the stigma of snobby restaurants with high prices. That is definitely not the case here, for everything we ordered we paid under $70 and had more than enough to take home. Me and my wife are already planning a trip just to come back and enjoy this delicious food! We also tried some of our friends dishes and definitely want to go back for those that we weren’t able to get....
Read moreCame here for a late lunch/early dinner 4pm ish for Valentine's Day and there was no wait and immediately ordered and sat. Menu is on the wall behind registers and also in print outs to the left if you'd like to read the descriptions and see prices, etc. They have a great selection of pizza, shareables, pastas, and alcohol. The pizza available for per slice is in the case with a list above it. We ordered and given a number and seating was up to us. Silverware also has to be picked up on your own as well as soda. They have indoor seating with a section that goes 'outside' where its covered and tv's on both ends and sunlight. Our shareables didn't take long to come out which were mozzarella sticks and one piece of the nashville hot chicken. Mozzarella sticks were nice and crispy with a good cheese pull, but not too much. Wish there was a bit more breading but definitely some of the better tasting sticks we've had. Nashville chicken came with a lot of pickled cucumbers all over the plate with it. It was good, juicy piece of chicken and the sauce was good, but I want more kick from my Nashville chicken. It's more of spicy oil than rub by the way. Our main items were a slice of pepperoni and Dominic's since they didn't have margherita. They both were very hot fresh out the oven! They have peppers, parmesan and something else in shakers. Pizza was well cooked, slightly greasy which is true NY style, and that delicious thin crust. Great flavor on it! Overall a great place tucked in the corner of this small business mall. The parking is pretty tight and you have to pay for it, but I believe they offer validation, although we didn't get ours done. We were there for about an hour and paid $4.50. Look forward to coming back to try more items...
