The Mission Valley Branch Library, Fenton Parkway San Diego Trolley Green Line stop -- to get to the Mission Valley library one may take many roads. I got on the Trolley at the Old Town station and took the next train east to Fenton Parkway, a quiet, almost unpopulated Trolley Station. It is the stop right before the Stadium where the Chargers played. You get to the library by going east once you get off the train. The library is the first major building you come to. It's rear is curved and glassed. You walk up a quiet street to the front of the Library and reach it by climbing some steps. Near the door books are sold by genre in portable carts. Inside, the library is, in winter, warm, a place to relax. There are many computers, grouped according to dedicated use. There is a room called the Computer Lab, where anyone may use a computer for a while. There's a pay as you go copier. Study tables are everywhere. A reference librarian has a desk in the midst of things. There seem to be some in rooms off the main library area. Surveillance is intense enough. A private security guard is always lurking about, and to keep the homeless from cleaning up in the bathroom, the bathroom door is sometimes left partially open. Some armless, almost comfortable chairs ring the curved window area at the back of the library. There are outlets here for charging. There is, here, free WiFi as in all libraries in San Diego. From the curved windows, you look out on an Ikea next door, the city stadium, the edges of the valley, a soccer field and Fenton Parkway. The San Diego Trolley (light rail) runs by the window too. Yes. Free hand sanitizer is dispensed near the front door. ...
Years later, Google asks, what's new at the library? Well. It's the chairs, the sleeping chairs next to the curving windows looking out at the passing trains. The...
Read moreI love this place to study. It is nice decorated, kinda modern, and comfortable seats. you can reserve seminar rooms (a day or two before) for 3 hours. Good source of books. Computers and wifi
It has a couple of problems too 1- as it is public library you can see different people, and different behaviors!!! The other day I noticed a guy with his urine in the cup! Sitting and playing game with the computer! (Do not understand why!!) There is always guard, but they enter, when it is serious problem not for this. Or the other day, an adult man, was reading kids book so loud and I could not understand what I read. 2- there are lots of children, also they are cute but if you want to read and need to focus, sometimes it is impossible. 3- the picture I attached is a man whose knife (actually it was not threatening but it was knife!!) dropped on the floor, when he fall asleep there. 4- sometimes it smells so badly, and I can not blame the library for that. 5- once I was reading at second floor (great view, big tables and nice seats) but loud part, a guy was coming close to my table, saying something, and going. Again he was coming back, for couple of times. and actually I afraid because he started talking to himself, so loud and with anger, and telling some inappropriate stuff, then I left there!!!! So always you wont enjoy studying there, but still I am a fan, because it is close to my place! I...
Read moreDesign of this library is more modern than othe branches and the layout is great. This library has a lot of places to study and I've rented a few books here too. Since this is a branch library it's easy to jump online request a book from another branch and a few days later is ready for pick up- my preferred method.
FYI There are a lot of homeless in the area but not too many of them actually venture inside other than to use the bathrooms. They just linger in their cars (if they have one) in the parking lot. Also a security guard is constantly walking and looking around the entire library to make sure nobody's doing anything weird or gross unlike other locations.
Overall, this is my library of choice and I go out of my way to...
