I have been across the country and everywhere I go I try sushi from different places and this place is at my bottom two. I promise there’s much better out there. The rolls were loose, the flavors were bland, the textures were off, and the hot sauce on my roll was the only dominant taste. I read the reviews before ordering and someone said that they might have gotten a new chief, so maybe that is it, but I wouldn’t recommend this place. I don’t normally be this blunt but it’s my last night in San Diego and I spent $80 here trying to give myself a treat for going through such a unrelated stressful trip and this just gave me acid reflex and a turned stomach. If anyone is ever in Illinois and wants sushi I would strongly recommend Jewel Osco, it’s a grocery store and it’s a very very unexpected place to find good sushi but don’t knock it until you try it. They make it fresh everyday.
For reference I ordered: sushi rice (bland and too sticky) California roll (loose and bland) tempura California roll (hot sauce dominant, and everything listed in the main review because I had high hopes for this) beef teriyaki with rice (the beef was good, rice not so much) fried rice with chicken (again the rice isn’t good) miso soup (smallll portion size)
I was drawn towards this place for the reviews and the 50% off discount and it wasn’t worth it at all.
In Illinois I’m used to 6 amazing rolls for $6 and here I got 8 terrible rolls for $16.
Everything was made and delivered quickly. The ordering process online is easy.

Read moreUnfortunately we did not have a pleasant experience at this restaurant... A waiter brought out a plate with what looked like a seaweed wrap but it wasn't something I ordered. This was my first time there and I wasn't sure if I messed up my own order so I asked the waiter what it was. He replied with "You ordered that, that's yours"? I was pretty sure it wasn't what I had ordered so I had him check the paper I wrote on and he did. I watched him check the paper and come back and take the plate and walk back inside the restaurant. (we were sitting outside in the front right beside the door). I watched him walk in with the plate that he had just took from my table and walk right back out not even 3 seconds later and hand it to the family that was sitting behind mine. I had already touched the food so I let the family know what the man had just done. I know it was the same plate because I removed a piece of the seaweed to try it with the white rice that was wrapped inside and the same place I picked off from was the same place that wrap had a piece of seaweed missing. When the family confronted the waiter about this he acted as if he had no idea what was going on even though it was the same waiter who took the plate and gave it to them. definitely the first and last time coming to this restaurant and I do...
Read moreBetween price, quality, and quantity - Sushi Kuchi just makes sense! Most rolls are 50% off!
I used to live in PB and now live in Mission Valley - I've been lucky to have a Sushi Kuchi conveniently located during both locations!
Service is quick!
Some of my top favorite rolls are: For tempera - stars wars roll, the warmth and cream cheese is the best combo!. For raw - Hawaiian Roll and Dragon Roll. Overall they have a pretty impressive large menu - WITH PHOTOS (I know that's helpful when places have creative names and you're not sure what to really expected based on the description).
My only annoyance is sliced lemons cost $1, this must be a commonly asked thing because the location in Mission Valley started to post signs on there walls stating this. For disclosure - I love to squirt lemon on my sushi ,it brings out the flavors!
But don't worry, no additional cost for extra sauces, ginger or wasabi!
The vibe in PB is alot more young, fun, loud, busy, and live. The one is mission valley and get quiet busy as well but the vibe is a bit more relax. PB location is definitely alot tighter; traditionally sized sushi spot. The location in mission valley is much larger and has a nice outdoor patio.
There's a tablet in the front "to add yourself to the waitlist" although I've never really waited more...
