Pros: It's the most affordable thing in the area. It's close to campus.
CONS: You get kicked out after 2 years. They don't fill empty spaces quickly, so you will sit on the waitlist forever. There is constant construction (which hopefully will fix the 2 year policy).
USCD housing (undergrad & grad) is nice, but the people who run the housing don't care about the students. There are many empty rooms that take months to be filled, even though tons of people are waiting for and need a place to live. There are families of hospital patients living in student housing (i'm sure they are great people and they should have a place to stay, but not at the expense of students who can barely afford food and rent after paying for school). Do those families have a time limit on their stay like we do? When will UCSD step up and actually offer 4 year housing to students?
UCSD's housing & parking situations are the worst things about this school (both...
Read moreWe really enjoy living here. It's really quiet, and there's a shuttle that comes every 15 min that goes up to campus. Management is very hands-off (in a good way), and maintenance requests are filled within 24 hours.
The biggest cons are that it isn't as well lit as other parts of grad housing and there's regular bike theft and occasional break-ins of first floor apartments. I haven't seen any cars broken into, despite that being a regular occurrence on La Jolla parking garages, but better security would be fantastic. There's also not any AC, which management will say isn't needed because of the "cool La Jolla breeze" despite them having AC units in their own offices. If you get a contract to a unit and you're worried about the heat, keep in mind that units facing southwest are going to be the warmest. Our utility bill is around...
Read moreIts affordable and nice for what it is (being close to campus) but the architecture is horrible with so much wasted space.
Pros: Affordable, close to campus (UCSD), kind staff, neighbors are all in the same age range so no one is freaking out over noise (which is a huge plus).
Cons: Small living space, NO AIR CONDITIONING (which is almost barbaric in 2019 (first world problems)), no smoking allowed (they dont even have designated smoking units/areas (which feels like a violation of rights or at least discrimination), no washer and dryers in unit (and the communal ones are always broken), no bath tub, a weird PO BOX system (weird/bad idea), and again NO AIR...
