Credit where due, they’re doing more to be sustainable than a lot of competitors - but I personally audited their claims and found a ton of problems. The last report was from 2019, and a lot of the specific attempts at advertising environmental claims were misleading or just incorrect. Obviously almost nobody has the time or energy to understand the full reports and data behind it, but I do. And it’s a great effort compared to fast food and garbage beside, but “cage free” eggs for instance are STILL FACTORY FARMED! Open pasture, renewable and regenerative agriculture, small family farms, farms you can list by name — relationships with farms - that’s what makes a restaurant truly sustainable and none of that is here.
When you make these huge green claims you’re not expecting people to read fine print, but it puts you in the spotlight for someone to actually check them!
The chain reports to earn something like 6X the cost of each employee in revenue, so they’re clearly wildly profitable and could afford to make legitimately green choices - but they’re doing the bare minimum and patting themselves on the back for it.
Service was very slow and inattentive, the tap water tastes of chlorine (filters please!) but that’s not all their fault; it’s the city. The food is light on flavor, big on calories.
The hot sauce brands were reasonably ethical so that was nice, and likewise points for jams and maple syrups. But industrially produced Heinz ketchup is a step backward, corn syrup junk. They claim to use a better brand in their 2019 report and clearly stopped using that brand to save money! So they may well be less sustainable than they were 4 years ago. Sigh.
Flatware and glasses were worn and not totally clean. Chairs and tables cheap plastic and bare metal.
Pricing pretty reasonable so that’s a fair note that keeps a few of the stars. A humble 3/5. Room for improvement, clearly someone at the company is trying but not nearly hard enough. If it stops you from going to ihop, sure, come here instead. By all means that’s a better choice- but you can buy way higher quality food in the grocery...

Having been consistently coming to this place for the last three years and always something new. Snooze A.M Eatery opens as early as 6.30 and the fun lasts till late afternoon. Lively ambiance paired with hearty flavors, reservations are recommended for weekends.
My latest visit was served by Karryline, who was one of the sweetest servers. She was attentive to all my needs and quick to respond. She also has a great understanding of the menu and very patient with all her guests. She brought great joy to my experience.
The pancakes are nice and fluffy and have a wide selection of toppings that you can mix and match and modify as much as you like. My personal favorite is the Pancake Flight. The Blueberry Danish and Pineapple Upsidedown are must-trys (Hint: ask for more pineapple chunks and thank me later), my personal choice is substituting the third one with either Strawberry Shortcake or the Seasonal flavor (ask for it).
The Egg Benedict satisfies all your breakfast needs. The Hollandaise Sauce is rich and creamy and nicely emulsified, the yolks are always runny and enjoyable. I recommend sticking to the classic choice of thick cut Canadian bacon, the smoky flavors compliment nicely with the egg and sauce.
Snooze gets their Brioche from a well-loved local bakery Bread & Cia, which forms as the base for their beloved French Toast menus. Be it the sweet OMG! French Toast or the savory ham and mustard combo, you will like it till the last bite.
No matter you are a La Jolla local or a traveller, this place is definitely...
Read moreI really am disappointed that Del Mar's location closed. I went to this location instead. Definitely not going back after this last experience. Two of their servers (one who actually ended up having to take care of my table) were gossiping quite loudly about a couple of their patrons dining in with them right as we were about to be seated. It was off putting and gives off the illusion that your employees will openly talk about diners that way. I know it's human to want to talk about that, but anything of that kind is meant for break or in the kitchen, far from your other diners and definitely not in front of others waiting to be seated. As a former breakfast attendant, I know that's not how you're supposed to conduct yourself. The meal was adequate, but the chicken sausage was far too dry. Probably should have taken the cue before being seated that we should have looked for another establishment to dine at. And before you auto reply to this for me to forward my complaint to guest relations, I already did. :) I felt your response was lacking and therefore now just doing my part to let other potential patrons know if you don't want to be openly discussed amongst servers, this is absolutely not the place for you.
Update: clearly whoever does the auto reply on the critical reviews didn't read that I already reached out to guest relations, so this shows how much they actually take the time to "make...
