I have already expressed most of my concern in a survey that I received from the hotel after my stay, but wanted to share my experience with the general public.
I drove in bumper-to-bumper traffic for 3.5 hours last Saturday in scorching hot temperatures for my niece’s wedding that was scheduled for 4PM in La Jolla. I am a planner and try to be pro-active whenever I see a possible problem in advance, so I had emailed the hotel a week prior to the event to see if I would be allowed to check-in a couple hours early at 1:00PM so that I would have time to freshen up and get ready for my niece’s big day. They responded that while they could not guarantee a room would be ready at that time, they would do what they could to try to help.
I arrived around 2 or so (the traffic was so bad!) and mentioned to the desk clerk that I had written to customer service about our need to get into a room a little early. I was with my teenage son - who, for context of this review - is clearly disabled. We were extremely hot, hungry, and needed to be able to recover briefly before meeting up at 3:30 with the bride’s parents to catch a ride to the wedding venue. Unfortunately for us, my plea to check-in just a bit early was denied as the agent said there were no rooms available. While the front desk agent seemed friendly enough, she was also dismissive as if the wedding was not that big of deal. She informed me that I could join their wait-list for available rooms and receive a text when one was made available. I had no other choice but to wait and hope that one would open up quickly.
We bought some drinks and some food from the lobby cafe to try to rehydrate a little…minutes of waiting for the room turned into a full hour. I started to receive texts from my sister about the shuttle to the wedding venue. I was still panicking that we would not make it in time for the wedding if we could not get a room soon so I returned to the desk at 3PM to see if one was available. The agent was able to suddenly find one, and while grateful that we at least got to get into one by 3:05PM, the race was now on to try to get both myself and my son dressed and ready to go by 3:20 to make it on time. There was literally no time to shower, no time to wash my face, no time to put on any makeup, and no time to do my hair. To the ladies & gents that are reading my review, I hope you feel my crushing pain with this, as I felt and looked like a complete mess. It was even worse knowing that I would have to be taking professional pictures with the bride & groom while I looked absolutely horrible. We ended up nearly missing our shuttle ride waiting for us 10 miles away and we were definitely late to the wedding, which fortunately (??) was delayed because of a few other issues that arose because of the insane traffic in the area.
Yes, this is a lengthy review, but it’s because weddings are a huge deal, at least to me they are. Most people attending one would want to look and feel their best and I most definitely did not. Some might say that this was my fault for not booking the room for an extra night beforehand but not everyone can afford that extra expense OR fit it into their schedule.
It should also be noted that check-out time from this hotel is 10:30AM. If one walks the hall prior to that time, as I did, one will see the housekeepers are already working prior to that. It just seems a little unbelievable to me that a hotel of this size that there were no rooms available at the time I arrived.
I would definitely not stay here again after this sobering experience. I really just wish that it went better than it did, as again, I really did not enjoy the fact that I looked like a complete mess at...
Read moreCame here for a business event, and this was my first time coming to this location. I've stayed at other Hyatt Regency locations locally and out of state, but this is by far my least favorite.
Coming from the fwy, the entrance to the hotel can be easily missed if you're not paying attention. There are no signs that it's the entrance way. The moment I pulled up, multiple buses were just blocking the way. I saw the self parking upon my entry, but I thought I should check in first as I usually do at other hotels.
Be careful when you circle in at what seemed to be the front of the hotel. It's a little narrow, so if driving a wide car, ease it a little. Someone came up to my car and said valet is $45 per night. If I want to do self parking, it'll be $35 per night. My company has a set budget so of course I did the self parking. The directions the valet gave me were not clear, so it was a good thing I saw upon entry where it was.
There were set spaces for the event, which was nice. Upon exiting the garage parking, there are signs you'll see. Apart from me, multiple guests were also lost, so it was frustrating. Once you exit the garage parking, head to where it says hotel restaurant. You're welcome.
Entering, you'll be at the lower level. You can either go up the stairs or take the elevator to the lobby. I did a late check-in, and it wasn't that busy (literally only 1 guest was checking in and 3 front desks. I don't know if it was a bad night, but the front desk was kinda rude. Every question I asked about the event or where to go, she was rolling her eyes and sounds done with her shift. I get that any job can be tiring, but when you're in customer service, I'd appreciate it if you don't let that bad energy affect your job.
I got a high room floor, which was my preference. The room is nice as you can see in the photos and the view from the window the next morning is nice. BUT! My room was dusty, and I'm allergic to dust. I had to wipe down tables, lamps, switches, and remote. It seemed it wasn't recently cleaned. This was the first time I checked into a room from Hyatt Regency that the state of the room isn't as clean, so it was disappointing.
I'm not a tall nor lengthy person, so the safe was a bit tall from where it sits. I have to jump just to see if anything was inside or if I left anything when I was packing up on the last day.
The pool has a lap side for anyone who travels with workouts in their agenda. The jacuzzi is at the corner, but be careful, it's slippery. The gym is outside the main lobby where you check in. I didn't go. At the same main lobby, there's what they call "the Market". It's a little convenience store with bakery goods and sanwiches with a variety of drinks and little merch. In it, there's starbucks. And no, you can't use starbucks points nor the card as I was told by the person who worked there. They have a pretty decent menu, enough for anyone to make a choice instead of driving out in the fog.
My friend was staying at another room, the only difference in our rooms was that she had a divider/organizer box in her cabinet which I didn't had in the room.
Going out of the lot, you can do it multiple times during your stay, all you need is your room card. It's the same during checkout. I surrendered one key and the front desk gave me the other. Upon exiting, there's a box for you to drop the key before you leave the parking lot itself.
It's a good hotel. Expensive but I...
Read moreI put a lot of weight on service. I had two good experiences. First, prior to our arrival, the manager combiner our 2 separate reservations - one for me as a globalist and another for my wife. He applied globalist status to both our reservations, which was a plus. Second, our waitress for breakfast was very friendly and accommodating. She provided good service.
Now here comes the negative experience. I have been dealing with my hotel room key not working whenever i go out of the parking lot. The morning of day 2, i went to the receptionist and she have me 2 tickets to use on the way. when i exited the screen indicated that both tickets were expired. The evening of day 2, I went to the front desk and report about my parking issues and I had to deal with this receptionist who was rude and condescending. She had the audacity to tell me that I was rude when I, as a hotel guest, has been dealing with this inconvenience the past two days. I find her lack of ability to deal effectively with customers who have a long day simply unacceptable. After all, she is in the hotel industry. To top it all, instead of her coming out and giving me what she needed to give me, she sent a security personnel to talk to me. The security personnel does not know how to deal with people who have frustrations. He even mentioned that it was the end of her shift. Ending a shift does not excuse the lack of proper courtesy in dealing with guest. It made the situation worse when the security staff made that statement. It seemed like an intimidation tactic to have security deal with a guest. having security deal with a guest, who is simply trying to finish the day is another unacceptable and rude behavior. I have been a Hyatt customer for years and have been trying to maintain a globalist status, but if this is how Hyatt La Jolla treats guests, I would gladly cancel future reservations and not consider staying at this hotel for all future trips to San Diego. That evening, i canceled my July reservation and moved it to the hyatt Manchester. It’s a better location and my stays have been very pleasant at the hyatt Manchester. Oh, and when we exited to leave the hotel to head to the airport, the parking lot tickets still did not work.
So, I will not come back to this hyatt hotel. I will be staying at the hyatt andaz, hyatt manchester, and hyatt mission bay whenever i come...
