So my partner lured me into going to the Stonestown Sports Basement Grand Opening on Saturday. I was pretty reluctant to go, especially with the anticipated crowds. We walked in and there were SO MANY people all over! (Amidst COVID, I felt pretty hesitant!) But I guess when I happened upon the discounts on the Hoka sneakers, all my hesitancies faded into my backburners.
As I wandered around the store, I needed help with the jackets. That's when I met Sports Basement associate, Jennifer, who is a buyer for the Sports Basement Presidio store. She was A-MA-ZING!!! She not only had deep knowledge about all the products, but she was absolutely professional and super friendly. Just OUTSTANDING customer service!!!
We bought a bunch of things and left. Later on, we returned in the evening with a couple of our kids who wanted to check out the scene. I needed help with hats and asked Sports Basemen associate, Gabi, who is from the Sports Basement Novato store. She, too, was so friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER service!!!
We closed out the store. We were the last customers to leave the store. Santiago, a Sports Basement associate from the Sports Basement Stonestown store, who had helped me earlier in the day with fitness pants during our first visit to Sports Basement, helped us ring up our purchases. He recognized me and I was excited to see him because I didn't buy the pants on my first visit but I wanted to get them when I returned and noticed that they were sold out. Santiago helped me find the exact item I wanted online and ordered them so that I received the Grand Opening discount. He, too, was so extremely professional, knowledgeable, and friendly.
It's often the case when things are so busy in a store, that the sales associates can become grumpy or short with costumers. There was none of that that we saw on Saturday. Instead, everyone was absolutely positive, caring, and friendly. In fact, when I mentioned what I had experienced to Gabi, she explained that this was the Sports Basement way ... that Sports Basement hires and trains their associates to be like this.
It was such a positive and wonderful soppy experience for all of us!!!
❤ Thanks, Sports...
Read moreI absolutely love going to Sports Basement (esp this Stonestown location) - they always have a vast selection of products at very awesome prices, but above all, the staff here are so freaking knowledgeable, helpful, and easy to talk to. If you need something and SB Stonestown is open, give them a call to ask about their stock or just stop in; they usually have something that will meet your needs and it might be surprisingly on sale. :)
You can tell that Sports Basement puts time and energy into staffing their departments with professional people who participate in the sport and are willing to give great advice. Please continue to support your staff - it makes it a very easy choice to stop by Sports Basement first whenever we need to get any type of outdoor gear.
In particular, in the ski section, Jeremy and Poli are beyond outstanding; you can really tell they are both very experienced and truly enjoy helping others get their ski gear in good shape.
Poli was really amazing, friendly, and knew his stuff! He recently did an awesome job on my binding mount and hand hot wax in record time since he knew I was heading out on a trip soon, which was a huge huge help!
I bought my ski boots from Sports Basement a few years ago working with Jeremy, and he really spent so much time helping me find the right boot for me, including referring me to other locations who have different stock. The boots are perfect, but a little tight in the calves for the first few hours, so Jeremy recently offered to help make a few additional adjustments for me which really helped! Sometimes my partner and I walk through the section during the winter months, and we can hear Jeremy patiently helping people of all ages, sizes, and experience levels find their perfect fit as well.
Although there are other stores like REI, the overall experience at any sports basement location is really the best, and it makes me love living in the Bay. I remember when the 2005 Sunnyvale 2nd sports basement opened after Fry's closed (RIP Fry's) and my dad still shops...

This credit however goes to their employees. I'm beyond amazed on how incredibly well this store is managed and operates. From each employee giving you their 100% all with utmost care.
I visited the store today 1/20/23 and started off at their Redwood City location. After spending close to an hour with the employee for Skis and acquiring ample knowledge - we came to the realization that its best to buy the entire setup in San Francisco [where I live] and so knowing that I will not be buying anything there. He still went above and beyond to teach me all about skis and the perfect boots and various setups.
I left the store eventually with a happy face. Drove to SF and went to this location at first [later checked out the Presidio] - everything single person, staff were incredibly nice and helpful.
I eventually landed in the new store in San Francisco. Met Steve who is an incredible person [all around] helped me tremendously to get my stuff all sorted out. He then spoke with Tyler who is the technician who promised to put the new skis and binding together.
LAST MIN - I gave in my skis at 6:30pm and these guys really went beyond what I could imagine to get the job done. I am beyond grateful to these two people.
I will surely continue being a loyal customer to Sports Basement from this...
