I had the privilege of being one of the first riders on Top Thrill 2. I have been on the original and I like the new version better. It’s longer, smoother, and gives much more airtime. It also seems way more reliable since the launch system was completely replaced. Launching backwards at over 100 MPH is something every thrill seeker needs to experience. I could ride this over and over all day long. It’s almost as much fun to watch.
You must be 52” to ride. They have a test seat at the entrance to ensure you fit in the seat prior to waiting. From what I can tell, if you can fit on Millennium Force you should have no problem fitting on this.
The line for the ride is covered and shaded. You cannot bring a phone in line with you however they have music and TVs for your enjoyment. I feel the line is going to move rather quickly if all three trains are running. Phones and bags can be left with a non-rider, or placed in a locker for a small fee. They do have a fast pass option also. If you only have 1 day at the park, I highly recommend fast pass.
The new plaza was much needed. Sitting on the bleachers you can see rollers coasters in every direction. There is no shade in the bleachers however it would take away from the full view in my opinion. If you plan on sitting in the bleachers and burn quick, I recommend you pack sunscreen or bring an umbrella. Besides the bleachers they have benches near the line entrance.
Major props to Cedar Point and Zamperla Rides. They did a wonderful...
Read moreYou can't miss this one on a visit to Cedar Point. Even if you have to wait 2 hours for a 17 second ride, it's worth it. It seems daunting and scary at first. This is the highest ride in the entire park by far (about 100 feet taller than Millenium Force), but this is mitigated by the fact that by the time you start climbing you are already at full speed. Still, the intimidation factor is there. When you see the entire ride rock back and forth in the wind it's easy to have visions of it collapsing on you while you're on it (the rocking is normal, and beneficial. If it didn't give a little it WOULD collapse).
Personally, there are only two things I don't like about roller coasters. First, I don't like that feeling of "free fall" vertigo when you begin the first drop. Second, I don't like coasters that knock you around so much you have too much of a headache at the end to actually enjoy yourself. Top Thrill Dragster mitigates both of these pet peeves.
First, the ride is butter smooth. It is fast, and the shock of being catapulted to 120 mph in less than four seconds is exhiliarating. But you won't feel like you need an aspirin at the end of it, and that's a big plus for me. Also, when you're going down the 90 degree drop, there is a 270 degree twist. This turning actually minimizes the vertigo feeling, so the G-forces against your chest aren't nearly as bad as some of the other coasters.
Overall, this is an extremely fun coaster and well...
Read moreWhere do I start? The Top Thrill Dragster is a must try, sure it’s extremely scary and I hated it for awhile after riding, but after I stopped shaking I couldn’t help but feel accomplished for going on such a huge ride.
I was terrified of roller coasters for a long time, when I was little I would only ever stay in camp snoopy and planet snoopy, two kiddie areas of Cedar Point, all day. The biggest roller coaster I would go on was the Wood Stock train and even that ride took a ton of guts for me to even look at. As I grew up I couldn’t help but feel that I was missing out on the major thrills of the park, and I was.
Over the years I slowly started trying small roller coasters, like The Blue Streak, Gemini and the Iron Dragon, and in the summer of 2019 I finally mustered up enough courage to try the big kid rides. I rode The Gate Keeper, The Rougarou, The Magnum 200 XL, and of course The Top Thrill Dragster. I was so proud of myself for trying these rides and The Rougarou has actually become my favorite roller coaster in Cedar Point so far.
But, like I said a while back, I hated The Top Thrill Dragster for a while but eventually I found out I liked it. My pride took over and I couldn’t be happier with myself. Now I love roller coasters and I cannot wait to head back to Cedar Point, like we do every year, and face every...
