(Summary: The services promised were not rendered, the trainer was either inexperienced or did not care, put in minimum effort, went out of way to pressure into attending convenient class times for him, and was neglectful of the limitations I shared.)
5min read, I suggest reading.
I was sooo excited to join!
Austin, the trainer, did not want me to train during the 6:30am classes, which there was one available every day from Mon-Fri. He kept making comments "it'd be better with more people," "it'll be fun since we team up and do partner exercises," "do you plan to only come during the 6:30am classes? Are you not able to make it to the late ones after work? We have 7pm ones..." Austin made unwelcomed comments even after me making friendly ones feeling pressured to explain my schedule to him: "that's fine, I enjoy the peace in the mornings," or, "I'm glad you told me that, I prefer individual exercises" etc, he seemed more annoyed, disgruntled& forced to work despite having to be there anyway. I do not discriminate on age as many of my military friends became personal trainers while on active duty straight out of high school, they are passionate and knowledgeable...but he seemed like I was forcing chores on him. He was disengaged, told me to do the same five exercises every class just to shut me up while on his phone, then ended class at 7am when it finished at 7:15am. After the exercises, I had 6-8mins on the bag, not counting breaks. He treated the kickboxing, boxing, tapout, and bootcamp classes all the same. No effort and was negligent. I informed of my shoulder injury and he still had me do the row machine everyday before putting me on the treadmill to kill the mins left until 7am.
Next Mon class, he came into the room 15mins late, after making eye contact with me and asked if I still wanted to do the class. I'm half blind without my glasses and only recognized him from his clothes when he came to meet me. He continued stacking weights when I looked for him five mins in completely ignoring me. (Can they not verify this with cameras?)
There is no corporate structure to hold any level of management accountable, the seven surrounding branches are owned by a couple of people. When I requested that someone contact me after my cancellation email, the District Manager Shawn proceeded to tell me that I could go to another gym, that after talking to Austin that he was okay still training me(yes, because his feelings are the only ones that matter)...I told him that I did not feel comfortable going back there and I was not driving further to go to another gym, I came to this location for a reason. The way I was treated after only having the membership for 8 days was not okay...he told me that he gave me my options and that I'm not going to hear what I want: to get a refund because I made a commitment. I told him that I did not understand why he refused to listen to my gradiences& suggest that I be uncomfortable in that situation. What were are my options to cancel? "What options?" he asked... If I'm being held accountable for the contract then his business should do the same. How are their trainers qualified& trained& what their standards were...he said he didn't understand, it was experience. Okay then, how much experience do trainers need to have? What counts as experience? He said that he was not going to entertain those types of questions, that he was just going to sit on the phone and listen to me. (The other location's manager, Shane, hung up on me after he told me that he would not have the paperwork faxed to another location, that I needed to go into the same gym to cancel...despite feeling uncomfortable with the trainer. I told him that his behavior was predatory and lacked compassion and his response was to hang up.) You know...Shawn even had the nerve to "remind" me that I "clearly didn't feel uncomfortable with Austin during the free intro class and that I chose to still sign up?" ...he tried to further shift accountability by blaming me for my inability to predict his employee's behavior...a...

If you don't want to be bothered, they will leave you alone, but if you want to chat it up they are happy to build that bond with you. Price wise they are great! What I love most about Tapout is how the only people who go to this gym are ones that want to get fit or are fit. There is no needless frustrating people in there with non workout intentions. Tapout is also what I would consider the real judgement free zone of gymns. Planet fitness claims that, but in reality that gym doesn't want people that are fit in there. There is a judgement zone for people who are fit. TAPOUT fitness is a place for all people who want to workout. I have never been at this gym and felt that I was being criticized for whatever I was doing, and at other gymns I always felt that at points. Their classes are great from what I have seen and their individual lessons always look fun and helpful. My one and only complaint about tapout is that there are a few machines that I dearly miss. That is why it's a four not five star. However if I have to choose over missing two or three machines that I'm used to, OR have an awful at atmosphere than that decision is easy. Shout-out to Brandon, Calvin, and Cody for being chill! You guys rock!
Changed this to a 5 star because they got a leg press last week! Could...
Read moreWorst gym Iâve ever signed up for.. from the moment I signed up they were incredibly pushy about the free personal training session even though I told them I did not want it. Located in a sketchy part of town with homeless people hanging out in the plaza at all hours. I was texted that my initial sign up fee would be a certain amount.. then I was charged a different amount. They tried to make it up to me by giving me a free key card? The following month I was charged an incorrect amount. Then I was charged a different yearly fee than what was stated in my contract. I could never get a clear answer on a breakdown of my charges.. The final straw for me was when I needed to update my card on file so they requested I texted a picture of it to upload. STUPID ME. My card was charged the next day with fraudulent charges from some random company for over $150. Iâve never had fraudulent charges on my card ever until they got a picture of my card. I was told over the phone I could cancel my membership with them no issues. Then I called back to cancel and someone different answered the phone stating that is incorrect and Iâd be charged to cancel it which was over $100. I refused to pay to do guess what they did? Sent my account to collections. Worse gym experience ever and I wouldnât recommend anyone...
