2025 Update: After a not so great experience at the other local ski shop recently, I came in for a boot liner molding. Nobody questioned my boots not being from there, they did a great job, were friendly, fast, and helpful. Liner molding was $30 and done properly with a convection heater, footbeds removed, dowel under the toe. Their selection seemed fully stocked, and they had some KILLER deals on dynastar ski bundles.
I came in to try on some goggles and maybe a helmet depending on how the goggles were interfacing with my current helmet. They had a great selection of goggles, but their helmet selection in Large was a little soft - no worries as I found a pair of goggles that perfectly interfaced with my curerent helmet and didnt crowd my nose.
From there I started to poke around the store. They had A LOT of skis from a lot of different manufacturers, but not quite the boot selection that they have over at RM. I did not talk to anyone about boots or their boot fiting capabilities, but it looked like they were set up to handle quite a few people in the boot section at once which is nice. Like RM, they are super short on inventory for poles, only finding one small display with little in my length which is not something I quite understand as a bulk order of black crows meta poles would do both of these shops some serious good and wouldnt cost them much. It seemed like a downhill resort focused inventory, like RM.
The clothing layout is a bit of a mess - finding ski pants and bibs can take a long time as they are not grouped together logically (the displays are small and grouped by MFG), but they are priced well. I found a nice set of blue killtec ski pants with suspenders for under $100 and was able to order my size from the website at the sale price, and they even had a super nice pair of HH freeride bib shells in large on sale for $240, which I would have bought if I hadnt JUST blown my monthly budget booking spring skiing that morning.
All in all a good experience with a bigger selection than RM, but it comes with a commercalized big box store feel...
Read moreI really hate to be this guy, but this was one of my most favorite stores to come to and get set up for whatever trip I’m taking this year and it has always been a top notch experience, the staff is super attentive and personable and almost always has your best interest in mind.
I went to have some boots fitted last week and Steve sized me up to an 8, which I thought was funny, but hey maybe these boots run small, I try them on and it’s a for sure no. My toe is pressed all the way up into the front of the boot and they are tight. I tell Steve. “Idk man these are really tight”. I really needed a pair of boots so I ask him to go a size up, and these are still tight, but Steve assures me they’re supposed to be tight. I grab them and make my way to the door without molding them or anything like my last experience getting boots here. I check out and I head to the mountain. I get on the mountain, finally both boots on and in my bindings. Holy hell did my feet hurt. I wore them for a total of 2 hours before I finally could not do it anymore. I grab another pair of boots (size 10, sized at PG that fit excellent btw) and finished the trip out with those. I come home and head straight to Peter Glenn where they inform me that I apparently declined the sizing recommendation and used them which forfeited my eligibility for a refund. This would be acceptable if I were sized by a qualified person and informed of a return policy on a purchase of this size, but I was not.
When I tried to get my refund, Steve, pulled out his handy dandy foot sizer where he and I both saw it say 9 1/2 wide. He said “I remember this conversation, I recommended an 8 wide to compensate for the width”?. He says “You can speak to my manager if you would like”, I agree. He comes back with no manager and said best we can do is store credit. So with absolutely no recourse, I agree.
This is close to a $500 issue. I needed new boots, not new apparel or an exchange from someone who already screwed it up.
Now there’s no trust and I’ll just...
Read moreI purchased a pair of ski boots at the Sandy Springs location in preparation for my very first ski trip. I have very wide calves and was concerned about rentals fitting. After about and hour, I left with a pair of Atomic Savor 75 in size 26.5. During my very first day of ski school, I learned that my boots were way too loose around my foot, which is not something that can be adjusted on the atomic rear entry boot. Being that it was my first time I did not understand how tightly they really needed to fit. Looking back, I get very pressured to get the boots since “it was the only way to fit my legs - to get a size up”. I had little control of my skis and now, after 3 days of school, understand how tight they need to be. I got re-sized and a shop at the mountain and they told me I needed to be in a 25. I communicated to the fitter that it was only tight at the calf where the binding was - not at my foot. I’m disappointed with my experience as a beginner with a challenging fit and don’t think I’ll be trusting a Peter Glenn location with boots again.
The overall selection of gear and boots was great which is why they get to stars, but I feel very much that you have to understand what it is you need when it comes to boot fitting at...
