Let me start by saying, I love Deseret Industries (DI). I am a connoisseur of DIs, in fact. The previous "King" of DIs in Utah was the American Fork (AF) store, given its size, location adjacent to the freeway, cleanliness, and quality of donations. The Saratoga Springs (SS) store is poised to unseat the AF store!
Admittedly, this first few weeks are not necessarily something to judge by. The store will of course be its cleanest and best stocked given that it hasn't been used and when a new DI opens, the top donations in the surrounding stores are saved for the opening.
Even so, I suspect this DI will remain primo for a few reasons: The SS, Eagle Mountain, and Lehi areas should have high quality donations The staff I worked with during the grand opening (I volunteered) were incredibly caring and detail-oriented. There should be good inventory turnover as the location is in a popular shopping area. Their yard area is bigger than most other DIs in the county.
Some tips for first-time shoppers: If an item doesn't have a tag, they will price it for you at the register. To buy a large item or item in the display cases, you will get a tag written for you by a staff member, pay up front, then go to pick up your item. All items are sold as-is with NO RETURNS OR EXCHANGES allowed except on clothing, which can only be exchanged. Plan to be here a while. It is a thrift store and it usually takes me 2 full hours to go through all the inventory when I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpon entering this store, I was immediately greeted by friendly workers and a clean, welcoming atmosphere. But then, oh then, came the smell. Is it a synthetic floral scent? The kind that lingers like a cloud of perfume from an uninvited guest at a wedding? Or perhaps a blend of 1960s grandma soap and the faintest whiff of something questionable from the bathroom? Honestly, I couldnāt tell. The overpowering stench hit me like a wave of perfume-coated regret, making me gasp for air as if I had just walked into a chemical factory or a gas station bathroom from the 90s. I tried to hold my ground, but eventually, my lungs said ānope.ā So, to the store, may I ask ā why, oh why, does your location have to smell like a place where air fresheners go to die? Itās a unique experience, but maybe a little less...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreExtremely disappointed with the donation process i experienced- will never donate here again!
The employees accepting the donations were so unprofessional. From the second I drove up they were messing around, playing with things like swords and all around rude. They took the first tote of my items and dumped it into a metal bin-did not ask if anything was fragile or check to see what was in the tote, just dumped it. Later I heard glass breaking from my trunk. I walked back and the employee had broken not one, but TWO of my items. When confronted about their lack of respect for the donations I was responded to with āwe are allowed to playā. I canāt imagine how many donated items are getting broke simply because the employees do not...
