Two star room with five star everything else. A coworker and I stayed here for a work trip to the Soo and selected the Ramada Plaza because it was in the middle of everything, despite some poor reviews. They talked about run down rooms, fraud, and a lack of cleanliness. The first part is still true, but the other two have been remedied. Evidently the old staff was embezzling and defrauding both the owners and guests. This spilled over into every aspect of the hotel. Since then the owner (you might mistake him for a maintenance man if you hang around enough) has gone back hands-on to turn things around. While there is still a ways to go from a remodeling and design perspective, the rooms and public areas were very clean. The staff was great, but the location and sight lines steal the show. You can park your car and leave it in the lot for your stay, as EVERYTHING in town is a short walk away. The shipping traffic approaching and leaving the locks are visible from most rooms, and this makes it all worthwhile. The picture attached was the pilothouse of one of the lakers, as seen from my $93 room. I dont mind giving my business to them despite the well-used rooms in hopes that any revenue they get will now be reinvested to restore this gem to its former glory. Oh, and you can't beat a $12.99 prime rib special every night!

I’d give this hotel 3 stars. We roomed in the king suite on floor 5 and it was nice and roomy. I noticed when walking in that there were a few hairs on the table right next to the bed, right away giving me the impression that they didn’t wipe it down, kind of grossed me out but it was whatever. Bed was clean and actually pretty comfortable. Jacuzzi was roomy and clean. Breakfast was not that fulfilling, in the fridge they had bottled orange and apple juice, small yogurts, cartons of white milk. Fruit options were apples and oranges. Prepackaged muffins and danish pastries. Oatmeal packets, and 3 options of cereal. Location is amazing right downtown, and no you can’t get a clear view of the Soo locks because of the tall trees in the way on government property, that’s not the hotels fault. Overall I would probably stay here again.

I needed a place to go when the furnace blew. I couldn't have picked a nicer one. The manager Sheila, Rachel, other gals at front desk, PLUS housekeeping were fantastic! Very understanding and courteous of my needs. I was a so upset as things were in such a disarray and undecided at times and they listened. Not many places would have or cared to listen. I really appreciated it. I've lived in the Soo pretty much all my life, and I have actually worked in this hotel years ago, under different management. I like the changes that have been made, all around. So, thanks so very much Ojibway/ Ramada for making my stay as pleasant as it was. Thank you, Sally Jabour

We had a negative, unpleasant experience and our group of three can all agree on the fact that we will not be returning once more. We arrived at the hotel around 12:30 PM and asked to book a ‘Studio Room,’ which we were offered by the receptionist at the front desk. We were intrigued by the thought of looking up at the sky in a dome, and we were looking forward to our stay with Ojibway. The receptionist kept making comments- such as “duh” and lied to us about checking in at the time we were supposed to. Three hours after making a reservation we returned after a little tour around Sault St. Marie only to find out that our room had never been booked. About 30 minutes later the receptionist had left the business to a young male who was working his shift, and an older female as well. We had told the young male about our reservation and his excuse to not receiving our rooms turned out to be, “we have no staff and a hockey team is reserving the restaurant. It will take around 25 minutes. I am not a housekeeper, but I can clean the room.”

40 minutes later, and the room is finally finished. We walked into the room with high expectations considering we spent 7 hours on the road and 5 hours trying to get in.

Our day in Sault St. Marie was wasted because of this place. The room felt tiny and did not smell fresh.. and the beds were full-sized beds when we were told by the receptionist that we were getting a queen-size bed. We checked their website and they do not offer queen sized beds. We did not get a studio room and if we did, their idea of a studio room is basically a children’s playhouse. On top of this, we suddenly looked over into the bathroom and we see pubic hair lying all over the place. In the corners, on the sink, and even in the bathtub. How unsanitary. When we called the front desk to resolve the issue, the same young boy who cleaned our room by hand walked in to clean the bathroom once again. We knew he tried his best to accommodate our needs, and he was in our trust to make it better. But before he left, we heard the toilet flush and he ran out of the room with the cleaning supplies, without saying a single word.

So when we checked the bathroom, there was still pubic hair. It wasn’t going away and that was when we knew for sure we had to go.

The person who checked us out, Zach, was very accommodating and was very attentive to our situation. He was nice enough to offer us a refund paid in full cash, and before finding out all of the rooms had been currently booked he offered to give us a free stay. The spunky young boy who tried to accommodate us at the start had attempted to give many excuses as to why there were no staff to clean the room. Yet when we were walking out of our room we saw a housekeeper cleaning a room. She looked fairly stressed as well.

May we also mention that they offered us food the hockey players left from the buffet.. cold pasta, cold sauces and stale chicken. The bread looked raw and germs were probably flooding the silverware.

Some employees did try, we know they did… but a hotel who really cared about their guests wouldn’t come off as somewhere people don’t look forward to going. Please review the reviews before ever picking a place to stay. It will be your best...

CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENT AFTER STAYING HERE!!

If there was a negative rating, this place would get it. I would give zero stars but I cant post this unless I give at least one undeserving star.

From reading the rest of the reviews, there seems to be a trend with credit card charges. I made a reservation over the phone for a co-worker and myself. Two rooms for a week long stay. I checked the web rate directly afterwards and it was $30 a night cheaper, so I called back and the front desk said they would cancel the phone reservation and I could make one on the website. I was sent a cancellation email for the reservation, and a confirmation of two rooms for a week after the web reservation was completed.

When I arrived to check-in last Sunday (7-23) , the front desk said that I had made four reservations for a week, each with four people in a single king bed room! The front desk said that they thought it was strange, but that didnt stop them from charging almost $3000 to my credit card ahead of time. The poor girl at the front desk was clueless and had no idea how to refund my card. She took my phone reservation two weeks prior and told me that she had just been hired. Not much for training I guess.

My-coworker gave his credit card for his room and they even managed to refund one of my charges to his credit card!

The General Manager promised to get this fixed, well I just found out that they refunded one charge to my card, and then put it back on a day after I checked out! The charge on my card is for $150 more than the receipt that I was given. This all remains unresolved as I sit waiting for a call from the GM .

I have stayed at this motel on more than 25 separate occasions in the past two years. This is the second time this has happened. Sorry Ramada Ojibway but you just blew your last chance. I will gladly pay Holiday Inn Express or Hampton Inn and extra $50 per night to avoid this catastrophe again.

Does anyone else wonder why the owner doesn't comment back to those who are getting ripped off?

Update on 8-7-17:

Money returners to my CC, but didn't match the receipt I was give to expense the charges to my employer. The owners did respond to my comments and blamed it on me for making four reservations online..... I received one confirmation by email for two rooms...

This hotel was sooooo disappointing and is in really sad need of repair and big time updating. The front lobby had a couple old tables with 6 month old snowmobile magazines, some old leather straight back chairs, a desk in the corner with nothing on it and no chair and old dated prints on the wall. The ceiling tile had water stains on it, a couple of side tables pushed against the wall with nothing on them and two plants that were mostly dead on the table. By the table where the coffee was located, there was a four foot high wooden box that was for coffee cup garbage. When you lifted up the small handle to discard coffee cups, the inside of the box laminate was all pealing. Just kind of gross. They need a touchless can. You can buy these at very little cost. The room had a faint odor of cigarette smoke. When I tried to turn on the air conditioner to get some fresh air, it would not work. I called the desk and they brought up a fan. She fiddled with the thermostat ( did the same thing I had tried) and said it will come on now. Never did. The windows did not open. The air conditioning and heat were not working. The side table by the bed looked like it had been there for 20 years. Had all kinds of water stain marks. It was kind of gross, so I just put a towel on it to set my things on. The dust ruffle, bed skirt was soooooo wrinkled. Looked like it had been waded up in a bag for awhile. The high back chair in the room was soooo old. The pattern on the fabric upholstery on the arms of the chair was completely worn off. I’ve seen better chairs at the Goodwill. The art on the wall was really outdated, the bathroom door was all chipped and needed to be painted and there were black marks from luggage around the base boards that needed to be painted. The toilet seat was loose and the old sink was cracked around the drain. The pool was closed and when I went down to the dining room they told me the dining room is closed. They can’t find a chef. Bar area was sooooo outdated. Took lots of pictures. The only thing I saw that was good at this hotel was the location across from the park and the staff at the front desk were...
