I thought GPS brought me somewhere different today- turned out to be an awesome trip. Let's start:- Car park is spacious- left most entrance will bring you to the supermarket itself. You will have to get in from the cart area to get into the food court. I was hangry by the time I arrived and with that freezing weather, I was expecting an easier way to reach the food court. I came out of the supermarket, entered through the cart area. Initially, it was disappointing, I saw the first stall nearest to the entrance not opened. Then i quickly glanced through- slightly happier. In total, as of 11/30/2024, three stalls have yet to be fully opened BUT fret not because surprises awaits for us. I went straight to Wang Mandoo- I got a total of 20 pcs of shrimp and pork, 10 pcs of shrimp and kimchi dumplings (of which half of the portion was for supper). The cashier was a friendly lady and explained well --considering my hangry face. I think I can call this my favorite food. Next up, KGrill. If you are on a keto diet, omg, this is your go-to-food. Dress up your KBowl and turn it into something scrumptious! You can choose your base (rice or salad), protein of your choice, veggies and sauce that gives that oompf to your dish. Think Subway but elevated with kpop freshness! After which, I ordered a bowl of fish cake udon soup from MiMi Katsu. One slurp of that springy noodles, a splatter of that umami broth on your face and hair line. Goodness! And a tiny piece of Narutomaki and generous amount of fish cakes. 💕 In case you need to use the restroom- you got to wait if someone is inside. One room cubicle with sink. Standing outside is awkward because you have to wait where customers are exiting from their queue after ordering Wang Mandoo. At the end of the day, I was (and still am) wondering where is the return area for the trays. I returned separately to the stores that had trays. Besides these, there is constantly a whiff of cleaning reagent smell, doing a great job to make sure the tables are not stained with food debris or broth liquid. 👍🏻 I started off with the food court because I was worried I will overspend at the supermarket like how I did it at Costco. I was wrong. I truly overspent at the supermarket despite that whole lot of food I ate. The reason being- there are (generous) food samples and heaps of discount you do not often see. Maybe the lightings are bright (or maybe I am visually challenged), I find that their veggies look fresher and greener (when I reached home, it looked the same too.) They also had specials of which if you spend more than $100, you get to choose to buy something listed in their list at a valuable price (I skipped this because I felt really stressful when the cashier look at me choosing what I want-making life decisions in milliseconds are not my cuppa of tea). Most importantly, take that receipt, go to the customer service area and sign up for a membership card so that you can accumulate every purchases you make at JB market. It has perks to it. Btw, sorry no pictures, they are either in the digestive system (food court food) or unpacked and placed in the cabinet, fridge and freezer (supermarket haul)-💜. End of my essay writing and I hope the standard will remain the same or even better after this...
Read moreThis is a hell of a lot better than that disgusting H-Mart that refuses to refund items that are damaged or so rotten that they explode from gases or have insects in them. I really hope this place puts H Mart out of business since the staff here are kind, understanding, and don't treat you like garbage after you paid for food that looks to have come out of a dumpster. The employees here actually use hand soap after going to the bathroom as the employees at the H Mart that touch your produce, meats, and seafood don't use soap as the shared restroom HAS NO SOAP TO CLEAN YOUR HANDS. I know as I had to use as their restroom after a jar of Kimchi was so old and rotten that it exploded on everything in my vehicle to include my other items I had to return to the H Mart. The staff at Joong Boo even agreed about the kimchi, they should have given me replacements for everything I bought that is ruined, and how nasty that store is once you walk in. The staff here told me that they would have had no problem with an exchange or refund as long as you have a receipt. H Mart didn't care I had a receipt as they stated that since the kimchi exploded outside of their store that they had no responsibility to replace or refund any of my ruined groceries. Joong Boo is way better with good lighting, doesn't smell like sewage and a dumpster, everything seems fresh, prices and sales are better, and they have a great selection. So H Mart got my $80 for free since I didn't want my ruined groceries that they kept and probably put back on the shelves and in the leaking refrigerators. H Mart is why people hate us Asians and come up with these stereotypes. Thank you Joong Boo staff for not doing that and you will always have...
Read moreFirst time grocery shopping here. I have been waiting for this grocery to open. Its a Korean/ Asian Grocery. Mostly Korean products and items. They also carry other Asian products. I usually go to Hmart down the street however I wanted to try this grocery since this one of the oldest Korean Grocery store chain in the Chicagoland area. The store is smaller than I thought it would be, I was also expecting that they will have a a small food court like their other store branch location. The produce and meat are all fresh and neatly packed. The prices are also very reasonable than most grocery stores. The only downside of our visit is that when I took home the meat that we bought, the plastic cover of the meat was punctured and other was open. Not sure if the handling of the items were uncareful during bagging but unfortunately we have to threw away the half of the meat just to make sure we won't get sick. My daughter also mentioned that the bagger was throwing away our stuff in the cart carelessly. Which upsets me because, you pay several hundreds worth of grocery and your items are damaged when you go home. We will be back for sure but I will keep an eye on the bagger and cashier when...
