A Delicious Experience at Mimikatsu I recently had a meal at Mimikatsu, located in the food court of the Central Market in Schaumburg, and it was definitely worth the 40-minute drive!
First, the tonkatsu was amazing. The crispy coating was perfectly crunchy, and the meat inside was tender and well-cooked. The balance between the meat and the batter was just right, and I was thoroughly impressed. The udon broth was light and not overly salty, which meant I finished the entire bowl without hesitation. Usually, I don’t finish the broth, but this one was so clean and pleasant that I couldn’t stop drinking it. The small cuts of kombu (seaweed) added a great texture, which I really enjoyed.
The side dishes of pickled radish and kimchi were also very tasty and matched well with the main dishes. The cheese katsu and pork katsu my kids ordered were also a big hit—they ate everything! I especially loved the combination of cheese katsu with the jalapeño pickles. The tangy pickles balanced out the richness of the cheese perfectly.
The soup was another standout. It reminded me of the soups my mom used to make when I was younger—it was comforting and flavorful. The udon broth was not overly salty, which I appreciated. While some might find it a bit mild if they’re used to stronger, saltier, or more intense flavors, I personally found it perfect. What I really loved was that after eating, there was no lingering salty taste that makes you thirsty. I didn’t feel the need to drink water after my meal, which is a rare and refreshing experience.
The staff was friendly and welcoming, which made the entire dining experience even more pleasant. The shredded cabbage salad and dressing were also very tasty and added a nice touch to the meal.
In winter, I highly recommend trying their udon—it's perfect for the season. The crispy pork katsu and the soup are unforgettable. Overall, I was really impressed with the taste and service, and I’d definitely...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I wasn’t expecting to be blown away by a food court experience, but MiMi Katsu completely surprised me! The spot is tucked away in the food court, but trust me, the food here is so worth seeking out.
I went for the Chicken Katsu, and wow, it did not disappoint. The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside – just like a good katsu should be. The sauce they serve with it is perfect, not too heavy, just enough to elevate the flavor. And the portion size was super generous – I definitely left full and satisfied!
Considering it’s a food court, I was honestly impressed by the quality of everything. The staff are super friendly and efficient, which is a nice touch when you're in a busy food court setting. The food is made fresh, and you can tell they care about the details – no soggy or overcooked katsu here!

Read moreI initially visited this restaurant since I happened to visit Illinois and this place was had the highest rating (and was close where I was located at the time). I was not disappointed. The service was very professional, the food came out in less than 10 minutes, and the manager was very kind. Despite the fact that the food came with incredible speed, the food was close to ideal for its price. The Chicken Katsu I had was crunchy on the outside and juicy in the inside. The sauce only helped elevate the flavor giving the otherwise oily food a refreshing taste. The sides (the soup and salad) was nothing too special, but was unintrusive to the main food and gave a pleasant variety to the dish. And last but not least, the Kimchi and Jalapeño peppers that they gave our for free were the perfect palette cleansers. Overall, this restaurant gave a surprisingly pleasant experience despite my initial lack of interest in...
