We were excited to check out the new food court at Joong Boo Market in Schaumburg, and it does not disappoint. There are plenty of different food counters on offer, with your choice of baked goods, drinks, dessert, pho, katsu, dumplings, and assorted Korean entrees.
I believe all but two of the counters have a touch screen where you place your order and pay. Then, you can find a seat at one of the many tables. They will text you (or buzz you) once your order is ready to pick up.
My husband got the pork katsu curry from MiMi Katsu, which he loved. Meanwhile, I decided to give K Grill Korean BBQ a try.
I knew I wanted to try the galbi (marinated beef short rib), but the meat platter was a bit pricy. I decided to get the galbi on a rice bowl instead, but once I added all of my toppings (along with 3 dumplings...) it cost at least as much as the platter would have. Which, makes this a good time to warn, just because this is a food court, don't think you will get out of here without a gut punch to the wallet!
That said, the food was amazing! The meat was so flavorful and tender. As much as my husband was loving his katsu, he had to take a moment to commend my choice of food. We'll definitely be craving it again soon. I think next time I will just spring for the galbi meat platter to make sure we get even more of the good stuff. Which is not a knock against the rice bowl at all. It featured two sauces of your choice, and various vegetable accompaniments, which you can add or subtract as you please. It was like an elevated version of a Bibibop bowl (or, more accurately I guess, Bibibop is more like the Chipotle version of this).
FYI, I am glad I asked about tap water at the counter, because while K Grill was able to give me a couple small cups of filtered water, it doesn't look like there is any water on tap for guests at the food court. So, make sure to get it when you pick...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI donāt ever order bulgogi but because I heard this is the same owner as KBQ Loves Park , (best Korean bbq meat than in Chicago area) which was one of the best quality Korean bbq meats Iāve had. I got the bulgogi plate that came with a generous portion of bulgogi on a bed of rice and lots of lightly seasoned Korean salad and a small container of deliciously, no-so spicy fresh kimchi. The bulgogi was super tender and delicious! It pairs so well with the rice underneath it that soaks up the delicious sauce and makes you want to eat every piece of rice. I loved how there was a generous portion of the salad (1/2 the tray) instead of just a corner 1/4. It was a nice balance and perfect amount bc I devoured my meal with nothing leftover. I also loved the kimchi because it was fresh. Iām used to eating sour kimchi and really enjoy and notice fresh kimchi. I want to try the other foods and love that they also offer tofu as a sub for the rice. Eat the bingsoo next door to this place bc both...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe bulgogi platter is flavorful, tender, and juicy. Get it with the side of Gochujang as that is very well made with a little sweet with a bite at the end. So full we couldn't eat the dumplings. The super bulgogi burger meal is good and juicy with the spicy pork and fried egg toppings. The bulgogi kimchi cheese fries is almost a meal in its self. My Korean butt needs soju for my meal and my only issues was the the mayonnaise on the burger killing my spice and the cheese killing my kimchi on the fries but they are cheese fries. So it's our first time so we didn't know what is on everything and the Americanized mix with Korean. I'm too used to classical and traditional. Maybe a yam or sweet potato fries with kimchi would be up my alley or an option to not have cheese with it and an option to remove the mayonnaise on the burger so I can enjoy the BBQ spicy pork and fried eggs flavors. We are going to try K Cafe &Eats next as we...
