I got the worst haircut of my life on Saturday 5/17 and couldnât hold back the tears after rushing to leave the salon before more hair could be cut, overwhelmed with disbelief by how choppy, laughable, and dull/fried my hair looked, and how it looked nothing like the reference images provided.
My layers had grown out from a Dec â24 haircut from back home. Iâm visiting the Seattle area but have an upcoming work presentation that would happen before I could go home, and Falali seemed to have positive reviews. I requested a shoulder length cut with slightly longer length in the back, layers to create movement/texture/volume, and slightly longer cheek length curtain bangs and wishfully thought they could handle the rest. I had the same haircut the last two years done professionally at similar types of salons (not trendy salons, but experienced mom-and-pop hair salons) without major issues. The barber verbally repeated and confirmed my requests prior to cutting my hair but was clearly not able to execute the cut I had requested despite reassuring me she was following the references and requests provided.
It felt immediately clear that she seemed inexperienced at cutting hair, grabbing uneven sections of hair and not holding precisely the comb to the scissors to make cuts, not cutting evenly where the lengths needed to be even (e.g. bangs!) across both sides of my face, and seemingly unable to cut hair straight or even cutting layers correctly in a way that introduces volume and movement. Instead, the layers turned out to be completely straight. To give a frame of reference, by the half hour mark, we had just made it through her final attempts at determining my back of head and front of head hair length, as well as my bang length.
Even more confusingly, after making cuts to one section (in no apparent order and extremely sloppy sectioning of hair), she would blow dry the hair again with a brush (having already blow dried the hair post-wash) to âstraighten and address any uneven cutsâ repeating this 3 additional times with each cut being more bizarrely not even and poorly blended/executed, and without any heat protectant.
To be clear, my natural hair is already relatively straight with very minor waves, and my hair had grown out from its previous layers so it is truly bizarre why a hair stylist would not take into account your natural hair pattern to inform the cut.
She clearly did not have the necessary skills or experience to execute this cut competently, and I wish they would have refused to cut the style instead of proceeding to butcher my hair. I strongly recommend avoiding this place and looking closely at the other pictures posted by reviews to really ensure you know what youâre getting yourself into - donât just trust the numerical rating and volume of reviews like I did.
I regret coming here to have my hair look worse ahead of an important work presentation and will now have to wait for my hair to grow out and visit another shop to correct for the carnage. Thankfully hair grows back so this...
Read moreI've gotten haircuts from olivia before and loved my experiences then, but i feel a little disappointed after today. i made an appointment online to get my roots bleached and toned for february 4th (today) at 11 am, and was hoping olivia could even out some parts of my hair near my roots that were less blonde. she quoted me for $350 because of the difficulty and said it would take longer than expected, but i was not expecting to be there for SEVEN hours :/ for reference i probably had about an inch - inch and a half of regrowth. after washing out the first bleach, she said she would have to bleach my hair a second time which i was fine with, but she stopped in the middle of it to cut other customer's hair so the second bleach was never even finished, but she still washed it out. after washing out the second bleach, she did a test strand for toner on my hair without showing me how it looks beforehand, THEN asked me if i wanted an ashy tone. at this point it had already been like five hours so i just said it was fine but then she asked me if i wanted brown. if i wanted to go brown why would i book an appointment to have my hair bleached???? i also felt like she was making it my problem that my hair wasnt light enough for the tone i chose out of the book she gave me, which made me feel uncomfortable so i started tearing up in the chair.. she bleached my hair for a third time to get the toner out she had previously put in all over my head (again, without saying anything to me) and i nervously asked if i could receive a small discount as i was not expecting to be there for more than the timeslot that i had in my calendar, which was 11-3. she started to guilt trip me and implied that it's my fault i'd been there for seven hours at that point because of the uneven parts in my hair, and that "even though" she did my hair for longer than the allotted time slot, she wasn't going to charge me extra. i could have spoken up but i personally don't think its my responsibility as a repeat client to try and rectify the situation, when the entire time i had been there, she hadn't communicated with me at all :/ and she kept stopping multiple times to cut other people's hair even when they were walk ins! if it was too stressful for her to finish my hair within three hours, i would have been okay with her asking if i could come back another day to finish. after olivia dried my hair and styled it, i did like how it came out even though some parts are still uneven. she ended up giving me a 30% discount and apologized to me, which i appreciate a lot but now i feel uncomfortable coming back here even though i loved the services i received in the past. i did still tip but i may reconsider returning again, which makes me really sad to say :( below is what my hair looked before vs after...
Read moreI want to love this place so badly but they got me crying over how ugly I look. I wanted a perm and I paid 225 for it. I even showed her the style I got before from another salon that I wanted to replicate (3rd photo most right side. Taken 3 months ago.) Typically I always go to this other place but theyâre temporarily closed due to power outage so I wanted to try somewhere else that is closer to me. It was urgent and desperate since I was about to meet my boyfriendâs parents in a few days. I saw the reviews + my friendâs boyfriend recommended it since he got his hair cut + perm there for around 160. I have never felt so ugly in my life genuinely had me crying on the way back home. The price was never the issue but it is the fact that I paid that price just to look my ugliest when an extremely important event in my life is coming up soon. I even tried to use &honey serum and fino hair mask back at home after the stylist used her lotion on me. It is so frizzy and dry it reset my YEARS of hair journey. It aged me so badly that I do not feel pretty at all. I would not recommend this place if youâre going for a perm. I wish I had just waited patiently for my usual salon to open because I am stuck with this for the next few months.
Also I try and be polite and everyone has their own opinions but I felt like I was pressured into tipping more. I ORIGINALLY planned on tipping 10 dollars because I DO NOT love my look at all but she told me that âusually our customers tip 15%.â In front of other customers and then made me pay 15 dollars instead as tip after I told her that I didnât have much on me. I was in the salon for three hours and she never said this to anyone. It felt extremely targeted and brought down my self esteem so much made me feel uncomfortable and insecure. I am sure theyâre nice people but it was the most horrendous experience I have ever went through in my 20 years. I had my self esteem and respect destroyed within 3 hours...
