This neighborhood really needs a new sushi place. And AYCE is just another pro*. I think this previously was a hotpot place that lasted like maybe a couple months and I think theres too many hotpot /noodle soup places here so I really hope this place lasts
It was V busy but thankfully we are super close so after putting our name on the waitlist which YOU NEED TO DO, we went home to wait. Wait time was 2.5 hours for 2 people on a Wednesday at 5:20pm
Do not stand or crowd in front of the ipad so people can see they need to join the waitlist
The menu was nice, they had a lot of items but the nigiri/sashimi was limited. You are limited to TWO rolls per person per round for a total of three rounds was the only restriction. Nigiri/sashimi was last to come out and by that time, I was kind of full up from rolls / fried stuff
Their special / premium/ deep fried rolls, there are 18 total rolls and 12 of those rolls have spicy mayo (or "hot sauce" which we dont know what hot sauce or if thats spicy mayo) so this was my bad but we ordered 4 rolls that contained spicy mayo so by the time the 4th roll came around, I actually had them take away that 4th roll after tasting it. It's a lot of spicy mayo that they put on and I wasn't really able to taste much of the roll, just spicy mayo
Because it was super long wait and some troubles and they're still testing out the waters, they gave discount off dinner time. The staff is working super hard and are really trying to be accommodating to all
I think our fav was the "sashimi salad" which I really think is just little bits of fish that were leftovers from the rolls lol
Some recommendations: -Bring out ginger when bringing out the dish with wasabi/space for soysauce or put ginger in that space and bring out soy sauce dishes
-Small plates for people. Reaching over the table to grab your bite with possibility of spilling and making a mess is troubling
-Another dish with the edamame for the empty pods
-It might be awkward of a space but putting the ipad to join waitlist like in the middle after you open the door or like a sign at the entrance saying to join waitlist because it being in the corner and people waiting crowding it is not fair for people who dont know this
-There is not enough sauce for the appetizer items (takoyaki, shrimp tempura). They pile on the sauce for rolls but not the fried foods lol
-Unless you’re a spice-intolerant you can completely ignore the hot chili markers. There was not much difference between the one spicy vs the two spicy, probably just...
Read moreMy partner and I tried Sushi%AYCE recently. We were a bit confused when we walked in - there was no sign saying wait to be seated/seat yourself and no one greeted us. When we got closer to the sushi bar, one of the chefs pointed us to a table. We were quickly greeted by our server who brought over water, plates, wasabi, and ginger. They showed us how to order and let us know how much we would be charged per pound of leftover food, that there was a 90 minute limit, and that we had to wait 15 minutes between rounds. I liked how transparent they were about their policies.
We ordered 4 appetizers - two came out right away and the other two showed up a bit after we finished the first two and ordered our second round. My first roll came out pretty quickly, but my partner's rolls took a long time - so long that I could have eaten my roll twice over before one of their two rolls came.
While we were waiting on their rolls to come, I ordered another roll. It was taking a while and we knew we wanted more than we ordered, so we sent in a 4th round. The sashimi came out quickly, but my partner's roll from round 2 and mine from round 3 still hadn't come.
At this point, it's been 30 minutes since those rolls were ordered. We used the tablet to ask for assistance. Someone came over and hurriedly told us that the rolls were coming and that there were just a lot of orders. They didn't, however, hear which rolls we were asking about. My partner then received their roll from round 4.
We waited 15-20 minutes and reordered the rolls we had not yet received. Shortly after that, my partner got their roll from round 2. I finally got my order from round 3 - I was glad it made it out because it was the best roll I ordered. At that point, we asked to cancel any upcoming orders and asked for the check because we were ready to go home.
It took an hour and 15 minutes of mostly waiting to get 4 appetizers, 5 rolls, and 4 orders of sashimi. While I understand it was busy, it felt like we couldn't get any answers on (or even ask) why our rolls weren't coming out in the order they were requested. Overall, we spent more time than was comfortable with an empty table between rounds.
tl;dr We'd come back for the food - but absolutely not during a busy time. The stars on this review are for the quality...
Read moreWe went to Sushi%AYCE for the lunch special on a Thursday, & waited maybe 20min for a table. Not bad at all for a much-hyped soft opening.
Service: As someone with extensive foodservice & retail experience, I am quite a patient person. Our server seemed a little frazzled, but that’s understandable given that it had only been open for a few days. The service was a little awkward—a few mistakes on our orders, a couple gaffs with bringing accoutrements to the table, but they were extremely apologetic & pleasant.
Food: My boyfriend & I ordered a vast assortment of rolls, nigiri, & appetizers. Given the low price point & being all-you-can-eat, I was pleasantly surprised at the overall quality. We stay away from most American rolls, and I felt they did the staples well. Slightly different than what I’m used to, but in a good way. I found the spicy rolls were just a touch hotter but also had less spicy mayo than I’m used to. This is a plus for me, as I can sometimes be a bit of a purist. I was surprised by the appetizers, too. They weren’t mind-blowing but again, for the price? Extremely good. I am a bit of a takoyaki snob. Theirs was quite batter-heavy, usually a disappointment for me, but it was surprisingly flavorful & not overly sweet. Sushi%AYCE seemingly tends to opt for simpler, less “processed” tasting recipes for their staples, which I myself quite like. Because of its business model its menu lacks a lot of the more premium fish & shellfish options, but this is to be expected.
Atmosphere: It’s a surprisingly large space with very cushy orange booths. There are a lot of seats, but they’re spaced well apart, so it’s very easy to navigate. As someone quite clumsy & who uses a mobility aid, I especially appreciate this. It is minimally decorative but not in a sterile corporate way (looking at you, Starbucks) & it works very well.
Cost: Sushi%AYCE is extremely, extremely affordable. $50 got us so much food we nearly couldn’t finish it all! Pretty damn good for sushi, and in Seattle no less.
TL;DR: Sushi%AYCE is not the place to go for premium sushi but punches above its weight in quality. They’ve only just opened so they’re working out some kinks, but it’s very affordable & I highly recommend giving it a try. Show this new local...
