Get Your Bearings is a great place to buy new skates and skate paraphernalia, however, this review is based off my experience with their *repair/build service. I brought in my skates in July 2023 for a part replacement, and it still hasn't been fixed in March 2024. When I brought my skates in for repair in July 2023, they were functional at the time, but I wanted to replace the very large toe stop in came with, with a smaller toe stop better suited for an intermediate skater practicing spins. Get your Bearings sold me smaller toe stops and installed it on the left skate no problem, but stripped the screw on the right skate. They said they would fix it in about 2 weeks. I've called and stopped in the store several times since then and it still hasn't been fixed (8+ months later). For context, I bought the skates originally through Get Your Bearings in their consigned/second-hand section. They are a bit more complicated because they are a European brand (Chaya) and Get Your Bearings has said part of the delay is due to the Chaya brand refusing to send in replacement parts. In October 2023 my email address on file changed, so I might have missed an email if it was sent after October, but still communication has been very spotty. It really seems as though they forget about my skates for weeks/months at a time until I stop by or follow-up with a phone call. I've resisted writing a bad review giving the shop the benefit of the doubt, but my trust that my skates will be fixed or reimbursed is pretty abysmal at this point. My advice would be to buy new from this store, but have a healthy skepticism or avoid entirely any service that would involve building or repairing...
Read moreI had been looking online for my first “real” pair of skates a few weeks. There is a lot of info on the internet, and I felt my research left me even more confused than when I started. One thing I did see many people mention was that skates aren’t always the same as your shoe size and it’s best to get fitted before purchasing. So I googled the closest skate shop and found this place.
When I went in there the place was pretty busy, and there was only one employee, but she was AMAZING! She bounced from person to person like it was nothing. She helped every customer and they also seemed very satisfied. Including myself. I ended up leaving with the perfect skates, and when I tried them out a few days later they were more amazing than I expected. I HIGHLY recommend this skate shop and will definitely be...
Read moreThis place is wonderful, and clearly a symbol of the strong, welcoming, and supportive skate community in this city. I went in as a bit of a skating noob with bone spurs needing advice on the right fit for my first pair of skates that weren't rented from a rink. Skating genius Sierra spent more than 40 very patient minutes with me, trying on various brands and explaining the very basics of skating and skate care to me. They were friendly and super encouraging of all my questions and my lack of experience but desire to try. I knew within a few minutes of walking in that I wanted to support this business over buying stuff on Amazon, and I left with the full $460 kit and kaboodle and couldn't be happier. I'm so excited to show my partner my sparkly new skates when I get home....
