Visited Montlake on a sunny day with my two grandchildren. This is a great place to bring children. The playground equipment is designed for 5 to 12 year old. Besides the normal assortment of climbing apparatus, they have a tall thick rope climbing maze that leads to a covered slide. I remember being scared the first time the kids tried it because you can't get close to help the kids without climbing up there yourself. Luckily the first time my granddaughter got stuck, there was an older girl that told her how to get to the platform before the slide. That's been 2 or 3 years ago. Now it seems easy for both kids and the structure seemed smaller. My grandkids are 8&6.
There are tables around the edges to eat snacks and rest(for Grandpa). In addition, there is a basketball court, baseball and soccer fields as well as open grass for frisbee or catch or whatever. The soccer field has artificial turf. That's an improvement from decades ago when my sons played soccer there. Montlake borders Lake Washington so low spots in the open fields can get muddy at times. There are also tennis courts on the other side of the gym building.
Parking can be a little tight on busy weekends but typically there's street parking across from the play area. There are restrooms next to the play area.
Overall Montlake is a good city park. Close to the freeway off ramp with a nice variety of play equipment and...
Read moreThe playfield itself is in good shape, no mud or standing water. This field is synthetic turf with the tiny black plastic "dirt". The track around the field is in very poor condition. And the grassy area of the park are boggy and muddy. We were there for a 6th grade ultimate frisbee game on rare sunny day in March. We had to park on neighborhood streets as small parking lot was full. The adjacent playground appears to have all new equipment for different is ages, sizes, and abilities. The one basketball court was occupied by an adult men's pick-up game. A very active and well neighborhood used park. I think there were public restrooms and water, but I...
Read moreWonderful park with an incredible playground. My only major critique is the playground safety surfacing is wood chips and can create some splinters or scratches. They have one field turf play field with a couple small aluminum bleachers underneath the shade of some corkscrew willow trees. The track around the field is decomposed granite nice for walking but can kick up some dust. Lots of open space and the Community Center and restrooms is nice. If you are going to the play area or the sports field, it is better to park along the street rather than in the...
