We like to bike to the UW from Bothell Landing and have a picnic down on the grassy area along the cut. It's so pretty on a sunny day and there's always a parade of watercraft going by, from paddleboards and kayaks to huge luxury yachts and everything in between. Or we launch kayaks from the Arboretum or some other spot and paddle through the cut. It's fun to be in on the action with the boats and read the slogans that the UW rowing teams paint on the walls. If you do this, be prepared to deal with some rough water in the cut. Most boaters do not obey the 7 knot speed limit, which is rarely enforced, and the water can get pretty sloshy in there. Keep an eye on what's coming up behind you and don't get too close to the side or you might get washed up against the concrete wall by the swells from a large vessel. There are several places to pull ashore for a break around there, notably the Montlake Playfield Park, which has restrooms. Have fun and be safe...
Read moreThis place is way cool , opening day of boat season every year is so sweet they have the races going threw there , they have the parade of boats going threw there. There's lots of people on both sides of the water . It's lots of fun there , pick what side you want to be on . When the parade starts the bridge is open and closed so you can be stuck on either side till it reopens . There's a eagle nest on the opposite side of the college at the park right there . Bring your camera there's so many cool boats that go threw there...
