I have been taking small group classes at Pilates on 10th for the last few months and have to say I am quite pleased with my experience.
Initially, when I saw that group classes were offered on ClassPass, I was shocked! I am used to larger group classes at other studios (Club Pilates, Moov, Solidcore to name a few) being available on ClassPass, but did not expect them at Pilates on 10th, which I view as a "Classical" Pilates studio (to my pleasant surprise) would be on there!
I eventually signed up for the two week unlimited package for $99 and thought it was a great deal, given that I completed 5 or 6 classes and a drop in fee is $48.00 for one class.
Studio: -Located on 10th in Cap Hill (northern side) -Clean, casual and no frills (no neon signs like "find your core", "pilates & lattes" lol) -All apparatus' you would expect- reformer, mat, tower, ladder barrel, spine corrector, Cadillac, Wunda chair -Neatly organized with reformers grouped in the back, mats in one corner and Cadillac centrally located with other apparatuses
Classes/Services offered: -Small group classes (up to four/five people): reformer beginner, reformer intermediate, tower, mat, jumpboard, Pilates circuit (using different apparatus) -Private lessons: 1:1, 2:1
Teachers: -They all seem incredibly talented and experienced, but I can only speak to Kerry and Mary, who I have taken classes with
Kerry: You can tell she is experienced and deeply cares about teaching Pilates, dropping in little nuggets about Joseph Pilates and I love her sense of humor (kind of dry, but totally my style). She pays attention to the small details that often make the biggest difference. I have taken mat and tower classes with her and each time, I leave feeling exhilarated from the challenge, but also enjoy being able to laugh a little! I will be back for more classes with her for sure.
-Mary: She is still early in her career, but she is very good at making sure the reformer classes flow well, which is a huge part of Pilates!! I like her calm demeanor, her cues, and hands on approach to corrections. I ask a a lot of questions (as I am wanting to make sure I am doing the exercises correctly) and she always answers with a thoughtful answer/explanation. Looking forward to more classes with her!
Booking classes: Either through ClassPass app, or on their website. Very easy and intuitive to use.
My overall review is that this studio is professional, "Classical" style, experienced teachers, friendly front desk and overall, I love it here! Don't expect reformer classes with heavy dumbbells and lots of complicated exercises, these instructors stick to the Classical system and progressively build from there, which I absolutely prefer and think is the best way to be safe...
Read moreThis place was so un-organized. I called in to see if I could purchase something from their shop, and they told me that I could come whenever. I came about an hour before they closed, but I found the door was locked. I saw through the window an instructor teaching a class, so we knocked on the window to try and ask them if we could be let inside to look in the store. The instructor glanced over very annoyedly and gestured with their finger towards the class, because apparently, they couldn't walk over for 5 seconds to tell us that I would have to wait another hour until the class finished in order to enter the store. Sure, whatever.
We waited an hour outside to try and catch the instructor when they were closing up, and I was able to finally purchase my product. On the phone, they quoted me around $55 for the product, but it turned out to be $65? Ok, whatever.
They let me know I could return it if the product didn't work out well, so I went back a couple days later to return it, and the store-attendant said we weren't able to return it, and that we should just call back later when the manager was there to ask how I could return it. This was too much hassle, so fine you can just keep my money.
Multiple horrible experiences in a row...
Read moreI took the Reformer Fundamentals class with Ellie and absolutely loved it! Ellie is an extremely knowledgeable, helpful, kind, and intentional teacher. I can tell she puts a lot of effort into her class plan and she values safety and inclusion. I’ve had spine surgery and so I almost always need accommodations in workout classes, and Ellie was super helpful which allowed me do Pilates safely and feel welcome. Also, the studio is spacious and clean which is always a plus! I 10/10 recommend this class with Ellie and can’t wait to go...
