AN EXCELLENT MUSEUM Iām a black man from the east coast (baltimore) and if youāre from an area like mine and find yourself in seattle youāre likely to ask yourself āwhere are my peopleā and really this is an excellent place to be. This museum really has done a great job of showing the hope, sprit, and resilience that black people who where going west traveled with, from the history of the building itself down to the many artistic pieceās on display this museum has an excellent change of pace in regards to what Iām used to seeing and emotions Iām used to feeling after leaving black history museums that touch on slavery and hardships. all in all an excellent place and if youāre into black history and or feeling a little lonely its an excellent place to be at

Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place is amazing! Its huge and I actually wanted to learn about african history. The black panther exhibit was totally awesome. I didn't know that the WIC program was created by the Black Panthers or that they created a free medical clinic for the neighborhood, and that they originally were established to patrol African American neighborhoods to protect residents from acts of police brutality. I really took my time admiring the pieces of art and really trying to appreciate where the artist was coming from and their point of view. Deep sigh in Just an amazing place and amazing experience. I love the gift shop too! The true allies I observed made my heart sing...Jim Letherer with just one leg walked with his crutches in solidarity. That is the kind of ally ship I'm trying to give.
So many other wonderful displays to point to the thousands of contributions made by men and women of African descent from hundreds of years ago - to their ancestors who are making a difference today, right here in their community, really made me joyful.
I can't wait to take my husband and kids soon. I only took 2 pictures because I was so immersed by everything. These two photos must have some deep meaning inside my soul...
