There’s a Hole in My Heart, My Wallet… and My Stomach.
I wanted flavor. I got a funeral.
The spinach tasted like it had given up on life before it ever hit the plate—flat, metallic, and utterly unseasoned, like it had escaped a can just to haunt me. The biryani? Imagine a soggy farewell letter from Rice-A-Roni. The meat was so bland I had to check if my taste buds were grieving. And the naan? Let’s just say it was having an identity crisis—somewhere between cardboard and confusion.
I left not just unsatisfied… but existentially disturbed.
This wasn’t a meal. It was a meditation on disappointment. A visceral reminder that what we consume—on every level—matters. Because food is energy. Story. Memory. Medicine.
And if this meal taught me anything, it’s that we are starving for depth.
That’s why I built Brain and Body Recess—to feed what this place forgot: the nervous system. The story behind the craving. The ache beneath the appetite. Real nourishment begins at the level of the soul—and baby, this plate didn’t even try.
If you’re still hungry for something real… Come find me. We don’t serve food, we serve remembering.

Read moreSaffron Spice is a wonderful place to go for Indochinese food as well as Goan cuisine. Both of those cuisines aren’t very well represented in this area, so when I learned Saffron Spice has those dishes, I was very interested in visiting. The space is spartan, but I ordered to go and they aren’t allowing in person dining currently. I ordered the Chicken 65, Gobi Manchurian, Chicken Schezwan, and Chicken Xacuti Curry. Everything I had was delicious. Each dish had a combination of spices that felt familiar but definitely different. I really loved the gobi Manchurian with it’s stir fried cauliflower and tasty mix of peppers and spices. I also really enjoyed the Chicken 65. The Chicken Schezwan was also great and was really menacing looking with it’s deep red maroon sauce. It looked like something that would knock your socks of with heat, but the spices were tasty and much more subdued than the color would suggest. Finally, the xacuti curry was the Goan curry that had a very nice flavor as well. I hope to visit again soon and recommend them...
Read moreI'm going to give Saffron Spice a five-star review even though they excluded an appetizer that I paid for as it was dealt with in an efficient manner. Thank you CJ! You are wonderful and understanding. Saffron Spice will offer you comfort food that's rich and buttery and quite spicy, if you want to go there. I almost always order the samosas as an appetizer they have three types: beef, chicken or vegetable. I also enjoy their vegetable pakora. Both of these appetizers are deep fried. My go-to items are lamb seek kabob, chicken tikka, chicken hariyali kebob or chicken malai kuftah. It's a wonderful takeout option as their portions are substantial. If you want to be more adventurous with chicken, I would try their vindaloo or chafreal dish with rosemary naan. Their saffron pistachio drink is so delicious. Don't forget a side of cucumber raita to balance out the heat, if you go the spicy route! I have not tried their Indo...
