DO NOT HAVE YOUR WEDDING HERE My parents got married at Woodland Park Rose Garden almost 30 years ago and I was so excited to have my own wedding ceremony here, but that’s where the fairytale ends. Right from the start I was told one thing by the Bramble and Wood (the event company that rents out the rose garden) employees, and then given a contract to sign that said something else. When I went to an in-person “planning meeting” the employees asked me questions about how I would like to do certain things, and when I told them what I would like they overruled my opinion and told me they were going to do things differently. One example is when I told them I wanted 110 chairs for the ceremony, they told me they would give me 100 instead. During this planning meeting they agreed to let me bring a canopy tent with wall covers to hide from guests in the garden on the day of the wedding, but then when they finally sent a planning meeting follow up email over a month after the meeting and only a few weeks away from date of my wedding, they denied ever giving me permission to do that and insisted that I could rent a tent from them instead or hide in other ways that I told them during our planning meeting were not secure or clean enough. I did elect to rent a canopy tent from them for the purpose of covering my keyboard player in case of rain, and was told multiple times over email that I could decide whether or not to actually use the tent up until 3pm on the day of my wedding. However, during the rehearsal two days before my wedding they insisted that I must decide then and there whether to use the tent or not, and claimed it was “policy” despite my having written proof that I had until my wedding day to decide. When I emailed the employee who told me multiple times I had until my wedding day to decide and told her I expected a refund for the tent because she did not provide me with the full service I paid for, she took a week to respond and at that point told me that no refund would be issued. As far as I’m concerned, Bramble and Wood stole from me and utterly ruined the planing process of my wedding, overwhelming me with stress from their deceit and making every single interaction a fight. For your own good, stay far away from the Woodland Park Zoo’s wedding...
Read moreAn idyllic neoclassical little wonderland, very French-feeling, with a graceful and symmetrical design. It is the kind of harmonious place that has a nourishing and elevating effect on the spirit, creating a sense of dignity and connectedness. It is important to state that this is completely free, unlike the zoo, and you can enter it without entering the zoo, enjoying the pavilion and the topiaries and the graceful fountain. This was constructed in the early 20th century, when there was a desire to create great civic places that inspired a sense of pride and common connection, places designed to endure and provide elegant respite for successive generations. We should get back to that. In the meantime, I greatly appreciate how well they have taken care of the garden and even expanded it in some rather lovely ways, such as the pavilion. There's such a sense of pleasant gracefulness in a...
Read moreThis is not just a garden — it’s a garden with over a century of history. An absolutely amazing place to visit on a sunny summer day. The best time to go is late June to early July, during peak rose season. Right now, many of the bushes have already finished blooming, but this place features over 3,000 rose bushes and around 200 different rose varieties.
There’s a small pond with floating lilies and fish, a fountain, a beautiful gazebo, and a fascinating sensory park with wind chimes and other features. The variety of roses — and other plants — is simply stunning. There’s lots of greenery where you can sit on the grass, plus a few benches. I recommend bringing snacks and drinks to enjoy your time there.
You can park down by Green Lake to avoid parking issues, since free parking here is very limited. I highly recommend this place...
