I simply cannot use the word "thrift" to describe any Goodwill I have been to in the past few years. The merchandise donated freely is way overpriced for this to be considered a true "thrift" store, and the Sequim store seems to have higher prices than other Goodwills I have visited. That said, the merchandise at the Sequim Goodwill is well displayed and the store is clean and did not have that used clothing smell that thrift stores sometimes have. The thing I find most amusing is when I see used items from the Dollar Tree that cost more at the Goodwill than they cost new at the Dollar Tree. The other thing that fascinates me in the state of Washington is that sales tax is charged on goods that have already been taxed once and are now taxed again as they are passed on. Used merchandise should not have sales tax on it. Are you listening state of Washington? In addition, I've noticed that Goodwills in general and especially this store had a lot of new merchandise. Why? It's all cheap junk. If you want cheap junk and don't care about how a huge business treats its employees then just shop at Walmart where everything in that "all American" store is made in China, though it will soon become more expensive thanks to that buffoon in the White House who doesn't understand that tariffs only hurt consumers and domestic businesses.
As a die-hard bargain hunter, the best deals are nearly always to be had at garage sales and on Craigslist. (Though even Ross has better deals than Goodwill, and their stuff is new.) So many people are thrift store shopping these days that thrift stores are pricing themselves out of the market, and, unlike with Craigslist and garage sales, thrift stores are...
Read moreI give this Goodwill 5 stars because when it comes to making donations it doesn't get any easier: pull up during the collecting hours, turn off vehicle, load up the attendant's cart, and leave.
Sure, the attendant isn't a chatty Cathy, and I'm okay with that; I don't know where the attendant is at in life; maybe it's not a good day for them, maybe they're in recovery, but they are there doing a job; so, good for them, and it's not my place to take it personally. The attendants may not say thank you to me, but neither do my cats and that doesn't stop me from feeding them.
I could probably have a dead body in a donation bag and it would go unnoticed by the attendant; I would never do that of course, but that's just an exaggerated example of how hassle-free it is to make donations and that's what I want!
While they don't take furniture, I don't pull up to find signs saying certain items aren't accepted that day, like at local thrift stores, and they're open every day of the week for donations, unlike local thrift stores that are open 3 to 4 days a week with odd or varying hours.
I don't care about the prices or if the staff is rude -- this is Sequim, the end of America, where high prices and rudeness come with the territory.
Looking forward to more decluttering and using Goodwill to take the useful items off my hands to get into the...
Read moreVery rude staff, my husband dropped my 5 year old son and I off while he went and ran a quick errand, I walked in told the lady hey I forgot my mask and my phone do you have extra she rudely replied no I try to go run and catch my husband but it was too late. I came back in,it's cold and wet and I told her well I have no phone and I'm just going to shop until he comes back. She said I wasn't allowed inside without one..She could have showed some Christmas spirit, ya know be a nice person...offer me a phone to call my husband. Instead informed me she was getting the manager bc it's store policy, it would even have been a little better if she would have said it with an ounce of kindness. At this point a customer was like I'll go get you a mask from my truck, thankful for at least one decent person. I told her she could call the manager or call the police on me. I know masks are a big deal right now but since when is just human decency and kindness out of the window. I wish there was a mask to hide her ugliness I'll never forget the ugliness from that lady and most likely my son...
