Excellent sampling experience. For starters, there are many, many options available to sample for free here. You start off with 10 1/4oz sample shot glasses (disposable plastic), make your own free flight.

Also you can do a $5 premium flight or $5 premium shots or cocktails.

In general, it was a pretty generous tasting for a reasonably low cost. That's the skinny on the business end of the stick...

The other end... The hostess was very engaging, interesting and funny, a huge advocate of the business. She was very knowledgable about the distilling process, and the business of being a micro distiller.

Whether your destination is the regional tourist trap Severville/Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, or you're just heading down Interstate 40, a stop in the tiny hamlet of Kodak to visit the Thunder Road Distillery is a worthy diversion. (It's litterally right off i40, give it 30 minutes...

The moonshine here is just as good as the other moonshine distilleries in this tourist-y area. I even began to wonder if they all weren't owned by "Ol' Smokey" who just sold their 'shine under different names. Possibly.

This place, however, sells a 140.7 proof moonshine. And it is very tastey!! I would recommend you buy it instead of any of the silly flavors.

I would NOT recommend you buy any of the poorly manufactured plastic jar spouts for sale in buckets placed artound the store. They do not fit well on the jars. If you actually do get one on, it leaks through the lid seal as much as comes out the spout into your glass. AND it is then impossible to remove. Buy your jar and drink out of it. Or use a spoon to fill a shot glass.

Seriously. You will regret buying...

Make this your first Moonshine tasting/stop! They are a little off the beaten path of Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, but 100% worth the drive. We visited them a year ago when we were in town for less then 24 hours, and put them at the top of the list to visit again when we were in town this summer. Rick did our tasting and he was phenomenal!! Great knowledge of the product, and a personality that made you want to just hang out and chat with him. Their moonshines don't have any fake flavors from what I can tell. If you like coffee, I suggest grabbing a bottle or two of the Coffee Moonshine, as I can sip on that with no other mixer! Soooo good. Will be stopping by anytime we close...

My favorite distillery. Staff is very friendly an even more knowledgable about products. They can tell you the flavor pallet of each item so you can make a better choice about your purchases. Lots of cool items that other distillaries do not offer. Example they are the only place I have seen that pour lids with a stopper for the pour spout. Keeps bugs out and helps if you knock over the bottle. Plus they have the most hilarious bathroom door signs ever. Lets just say no doubt which one you should use. Love it. My kind of people!

We had THE BEST staff serve us samples of moonshine here. Incredibly friendly, told us exactly what to do and boy they sure know their stuff! Bring some bottled water with you so you can cleanse your palate in between tastings. And I'd come with some food in your belly. I'm a lightweight and after 6 samples, I was definitely feeling it. The chocolate mint was my favorite as it was the smoothest for me. Great store and even better staff. Wish we could have bought some and brought it back on the plane!

We enjoy the area and often travel to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg trying all the moonshine. We decided this time to try something different, and we are glad we did. You get 6 free tastings of your choice of moonshine. Then you can pay 5$ to taste their bourbon or moonshine cocktails. All were very good and we left with smiles and a sack full of our favorite tasting drinks. I highly recommend stopping by and giving your taste buds the pleasure of some good ole Tennessee shine and bourbon.
