Aloma — Attraction in Shoreview

I moved into Aloma the last weekend in March 2025. I have an Alcove apartment on the 4th floor. I wanted to be on the fourth floor because I spent eight years at my other place (2nd floor) and several people moved out of the apartment above me. It was just always so noisy.

In the time I have been here so far, management has been great! Anytime I need anything, they are right on it with no issues at all. The staff is extremely friendly and they seem to TRULY care about you and your experiences living at Aloma.

John, the leasing director, was great in helping me to get approved to move in. He had my back and made it happen. He went to bat for me! I was so EXCITED to move in!

Tamela, the service manager, has been beyond supportive and she’s an AMAZING person. No matter how many times I ask her or tell her about things, she helps to make everything right.

Dan (maintenance) is a really nice guy and has been to my apartment a few different times. I have talked to him once and learned some interesting information about the property. He follows the notes when I put in a maintenance request (come after 2pm when I am at work and please don’t let my cat escape) and it’s done the same day.

I couldn’t ask for a better team than I have here at Aloma. I feel absolutely safe here and where I was before, I didn’t. Every time I walk through the halls, other tenants walk by and they talk to you. It’s a very friendly environment and very comfortable.. I am so extremely happy that I chose to move here and I am looking forward to staying here forever.

When this complex first opened, they ran a promotion where residents were entered into a drawing for a free month’s rent (over $2,000 value) if they left a review. Unsurprisingly, glowing 5-star reviews came pouring in—including mine at the time. Unfortunately, after living here for several months, I’ve experienced the reality and feel it’s important to share the full picture.

Within my first two weeks, I had to call maintenance multiple times due to issues that should not exist in a brand-new unit. Amenities like the golf simulator have no system for sign-ups, so they’re often monopolized—but the leasing manager seems to have no problem reserving it for himself and his dad.

I was forced to pay $90/month for indoor parking because only 10 surface spots exist—some of which were taken by the staff who also live here. I was told I could park across the street for free, only to find out they tow unauthorized vehicles.

The building has regularly reeked of marijuana to the point that the smell came into my individual unit and made me physically ill.

Perhaps the most disappointing experience was when I had to move over two hours away to care for my terminally ill mother and 8-year-old brother (who I may soon have to adopt). I reached out to management asking for any support or accommodation—and was met with total indifference.

There are frequent police visits to the property, with multiple cop cars showing up at once on several occasions. This doesn’t feel like the luxury or community-oriented place it was advertised to be.

My experience at Aloma Apartment was truly delightful, and a significant reason for that was the exceptional support I received from John. From the very beginning, John demonstrated professionalism, extensive knowledge, and unwavering support throughout every stage of our moving process.
